Five from The Farm at Canyons Ace Sommelier Exam

July 16, 2012

PARK CITY, Utah (For Immediate Release) – Management, bartenders and servers were all represented earlier this week when five members of the food and beverage team at The Farm at Canyons passed the Level One Exam from the Court of Master Sommeliers.

Restaurant manager Craig Back, bartenders Stefan Brutsch and Sean Palmer and servers Michael Agricola and Ron Gauvin all passed the first examination on the long route to the prestigious designation of Master Sommelier.  Assistant manager Ryan Koemans previously passed the exam.

“We now have six food and beverage professionals at The Farm whose knowledge and professionalism has been validated by the Court of Master Sommeliers,” said Sean Marron, Director of Wine & Spirits for the Talisker Restaurant Collection and a Level Two Certified Sommelier.  “This is a tremendous accomplishment and our guests at The Farm will reap the benefit.”

Applicants to the Court of Master Sommelier must pass a comprehensive written test covering dozens of wine-growing regions, spirits, beer and cider, food and wine pairing, viticulture and much more. This week marked only the second time ever that the course and exam, which are administered by Master Sommeliers, were offered in the state of Utah.

“At The Farm, we have more than 350 wines on our menu including nearly 100 half-bottles and many special order, bio-dynamic and organic wines,” Marron said.  “We also offer a multitude of spirits, seasonal cocktails, beers and even unique waters (Oregon Rain).  Our guests can have the highest confidence that our management, bar and service staff are well-trained at selecting the perfect beverages to accompany our award-winning food.”

The Farm, which was awarded an Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator in 2011, features an innovative menu that focuses on locally sourced ingredients from farms and artisans within 200 miles of Park City.  Located in the heart of the Resort Village and overlooking Ski Beach, this rustic yet refined restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining.  Selected the “Best New Restaurant” in Utah by Salt Lake magazine earlier this year, The Farm is open seven nights a week for dinner starting at 5:00 p.m.  Reservations and information available at (435) 615-8080
