High West Distillery Introduces 'High West Silver Whiskey' with Derby Day Celebration

 Toast this year's 136th Run for the Roses at High West Distillery and Saloon with a mint julep featuring the distillery's newest whiskeyHigh West Silver Whiskey. High West Distillery will hold its first annual Derby Day party on Saturday May 1, from 2-6 p.m.
 
"I can't think of a better introduction to our new Silver Whiskey than a Kentucky Derby-inspired mint julep," said David Perkins, High West Distillery founder and owner. "Our Silver Whiskey is an un-aged whiskey similar to blanco tequila or blanco rum and is perfect in classic cocktails "
 
High West’s first Silver Whiskey, made from western oats, was reviewed in February 2010 by the prestigious Beverage Testing Institute.  Giving it a score of “92 points - Exceptional", the review described the new whiskey as:"Clear with a platinum blue cast. Delicate aromas of bison grass, granola, toasted nut and grain, and chervil follow through on a soft, satiny entry to a light-to-medium body with hints of anise, pear and apple. Finishes with delicate, lightly warming, mossy stone accented fade. Very stylish and slightly reminiscent of shochu; will make great cocktails."
 
High West's Derby Day is open to the general public, and tickets are $25 in advance, $30 if purchased at the door and $15 without alcohol. The celebration features the Derby on our big screen, live music, and a full buffet featuring Derby Burgoo, Kentucky Hot Browns, Dry Rubbed Smoked Tri Tip, High Star Farms Mixed Green Salad with Silver Whiskey Chive Vinaigrette, Horse Race Pie, Bourye Balls and High West Diamond Almonds. In the spirit of the festivities at Churchill Downs, all guests are encouraged to wear their finest Derby attire. Hats welcome and a hat contest will take place at approximately 3:30 p.m. with prizes to follow.
