High West Distillery Introduces Unique Barreled-Aged Manhattan

November 4, 2010

PARK CITY, UTAH (November 1, 2010) – High West Distillery and Saloon, Utah’s first distillery since 1870 and the world’s only ski-in gastro distillery, is thrilled to announce a new product in its line of small-batch, mountain-crafted spirits: a barrel aged Manhattan.  This product kicked off on October 15, 2010 with the launch of “The US Grant Centennial Celebration Barreled Manhattan.”  Then on December 5, 2010, High West will release “The 36th Vote - Barreled Manhattan”.

The US Grant Centennial Celebration Barreled Manhattan was specifically crafted to celebrate the 100th anniversary of The US Grant, a luxury hotel in San Diego,California. This project was a collaboration between Jeff Josenhans, Chief Mixologist and Sommelier for the US Grant, and David Perkins, Proprietor of High West Distillery and Saloon. “We wanted to create a classic libation that reflected The US Grant’s 100 years and barrel aging it for 100 days seemed fitting,” said Josenhans.  Aged in American oak barrels, the bottled cocktail blends award-winning High West Rye Whiskey with premium vermouth and bitters, resulting in a well-balanced marriage of the rye’s spiciness, the vermouth’s herbs, and the bitters’ complexity. The spirit’s public debut  coincided with The US Grant’s 100th anniversary celebration on October 15, 2010 at the luxury San Diego hotel.

High West Distillery will unveil its own “The 36th Vote - Barreled Manhattan” at 5:32 PM EST on December 5, 2010 to celebrate the exact time and anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition in 1933. “It’s a little known fact that Utah was the deciding 36th state to vote to ratify the 21st Amendment to make it law. We owe a great debt toUtah’s leaders who had the foresight to end the Noble Experiment” said Perkins.  “To commemorate Utah’s role, High West plans to create a unique barrel aged Manhattanevery year and launch it at a celebration in our Park City Saloon.”

The US Grant Centennial Celebration Barreled Manhattan will be available only for consumption at The US Grant Hotel.  For those that want to purchase a bottle of barrel aged Manhattan, the High West version will be available on December 6th (December 5th is a Sunday and alcohol sales are forbidden in Utah on Sunday).  Media who would like additional information may contact Christa Graff at 435.640.7921 or  christa@graffpr.com.
