High West Distillery to Launch Barreled Manhattan at Manhattan Cocktail Classic
May 10, 2011
PARK CITY, Utah (May 11, 2011) – On May 16th, High West Distillery will release its limited edition “The 36th Vote - Barreled Manhattan” at the upcoming Manhattan Cocktail Classic in New York City during the event’s “Make Mine With Rye” seminar, hosted by High West Distillery. The 36th Vote - Barreled Manhattan will be available in limited quantities throughout the country.
The 36th Vote - Barreled Manhattan was first debuted on December 5, 2010 at High West’s Repeal Day Celebration in Park City. The name, “the 36th Vote” is a tribute to Utah’s role as the critical last vote needed to ratify the 21st Amendment repealing Prohibition in 1933. “A Manhattan just seemed to be the perfect libation to celebrate the end of Prohibition,” said High West Proprietor David Perkins. “Due to the overwhelming response, we decided to make more and launch it in its namesake city.” The bottled cocktail is a combination of award-winning High West Rye Whiskey with premium vermouth and bitters, and then married in an American oak barrel for 100 days. “The time spent in oak results in a well-balanced marriage of the rye’s spiciness, the vermouth’s herbs, and the bitters’ complexity,” says Perkins.
The 36th Vote Barreled Manhattan will make its East Coast debut at High West’s “Make Mine With Rye” seminar on Monday, May 16 at 1pm at Ward III, a cutting edge bar that makes some of the best cocktails in New York City. Perkins, which was recently named “Whiskey Pioneer of the Year” by Malt Advocate Magazine for several innovative rye whiskey blends, will explore the world of rye whiskey, including the distilling and history of the spirit. High West will feature different styles of rye whiskey, including its latest spirit, High West Silver Whiskey - OMG Pure Rye.
Tickets to the “Make Mine With Rye” seminar are $50 and can be purchased online on the event’s website at www.manhattancocktailclassic.com.
