Inversion Diversion: Snowbird Launches Blue Bird Ski Discount

January 17, 2013

SNOWBIRD, UT – Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort is offering a $20 discount on lift tickets on days it deems the inversion in the Salt Lake Valley is most intense, helping residents escape the poor air quality of the city and enjoy the clean air in the mountains.

“Although you can’t see it from the valley, the skies are blue and the sun is shining at Snowbird during most inversions,” said Dave Fields, Vice President of Resort Operations. “We’re calling it the ‘Blue Bird’ discount to remind locals that the air is clear at Snowbird.”

Snowbird will announce the Blue Bird discount days on its Facebook and Twitter pages, www.Facebook.com/SnowbirdUT and www.Twitter.com/Snowbird, by 5 p.m. the day before the discount will be offered. Guests may then ask for the Blue Bird discount at any Snowbird ticket window to receive $20 off a full-price all-day adult lift ticket, and $10 off a full-price all-day child (age 7-12) lift ticket. The resort is also offering a $10 discount on ski and snowboard rentals at Creekside Sports on designated Blue Bird days. To receive the discount on rentals, print the coupon at http://www.snowbird.com/winter/rentals/creekside/.

The first Blue Bird day will be tomorrow, January 18.

Snowbird encourages visitors to carpool or take public transportation to the resort. Information on Utah Transit Authority’s Ski Service may be found at http://www.rideuta.com/mc/?page=RidingUTA-SkiService.

“We’re trying to create a silver lining for the inversion, and not contribute to it,” said Fields. “Please carpool or take the bus to the resort to help reduce the number of vehicles on the road.”

For those who do not ski or snowboard, Snowbird offers Tram rides for foot passengers, snowshoeing and snowmobile tours, or guests may visit The Cliff Spa, which offers massages, a rooftop pool and hot tub, yoga classes and a fitness center.

For visitors who would like to learn to ski or snowboard, Snowbird is offering guests age 13 and older a 2.5-hour afternoon lesson, equipment rental and lift ticket, all for $45 during the month of January. The learner will also receive five additional adult group lessons ($65 instead of $105), and five additional days of skiing at half-price. Advance registration is required, call (801) 947-2222 for reservations.
