New Outdoor Movie Series, Races Headline Snowbird Summer Events
June 15, 2012
SNOWBIRD, UT – Free weekly concerts and movies, a new mountain bike race series and its annual Oktoberfest are all part of Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort’s lively summer lineup.
“Snowbird is the perfect mountain getaway with something exciting for all ages, every day of the summer,” said Dave Fields, Snowbird’s Vice President of Resort Operations. “These events and activities help Snowbird to be just as entertaining in summer as it is in winter.”
Snowbird Summer Activities are now open daily, including Peruvian Chairlift and Tunnel, the Alpine Slide, Bungee Trampolines, Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, Air Jumper, Mechanical Bull and Kids’ Inflatables. The Aerial Tram will open following its summer maintenance.
Snowbird also offers mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding in Mineral Basin, fly fishing in Austin Pond, hiking, volleyball, horseshoe and tennis. Children can pan for gemstones in the Wasatch Mining Co. sluice daily on the Plaza Deck.
Mountain bikes, mountain scooters, volleyball and horseshoe equipment may be rented from the Activities Center on the Plaza Deck.
The Forever Young Zone Boundless Playground is now open, and several upgrades have been made to the equipment. The playground is for children 2 - 12 years old.
The resort is introducing the Snowbird Adventure Race Series with four mountain bike races beginning July 12 and ending Aug. 2.
New this year, Snowbird will be showing a movie on the Plaza Deck each Friday night at dusk (between 8 and 9 p.m.). Classic movies include The Goonies, The Karate Kid, Gremlins and The Princess Bride. Admission is free.
Snowbird will continue its Cool Air Concert series, with a live band playing on the Plaza Deck every Saturday night between June 23 and Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. Chicago Afrobeat Project, Cash’d Out, The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and Natural Roots are a few of the bands playing in the series. Admission is free and small coolers are welcome.
Oktoberfest will return to Snowbird on Aug. 18 and continue each weekend, plus Labor Day, through Oct. 7 in the giant Snowbird Event Tent. This event is chock full of music, dancing and traditional German cuisine, such as bratwurst with sauerkraut and apfelstrudel. Children can enjoy face painting, caricature artist, inflatable rides, the world champion Yo-Yo Man, a zany clown, music, balloons and more. Admission is free.
Other summer events include Brewfest, the Tour of Utah, Mountain Bout Mountain Bike Race, Wasatch Wildflower Festival, Stargazer and Hidden Peak Challenge.
