New Webpage Tracks Westminster College's Olympic Hopefuls

January 8, 2010

SALT LAKE CITY – With one Westminster student already named to the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team, the college is keeping a watchful eye on their 30+ students who are gunning for a chance to fulfill their athletic dreams. To keep tabs on these Olympic hopefuls, the college has created a webpage with updated bios, press releases, news coverage and links to help keep the campus community and public informed of their students’ progress during the 2010 competition season.

During the recent Olympic Trials in Steamboat Springs, Colo., Westminster’s Lacy Schnoor flipped and twisted her way into a spot on this year’s U.S. Olympic Freestyle Ski Team. With 37 students currently on or retired from the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Teams, the college is rooting for a handful of others to get the chance to compete for the “Gold” in Vancouver this February.
“We will be cheering on our U.S. Ski and Snowboard athletes this season as they vie for spots on the Olympic Team,” said Westminster’s President Michael Bassis. “These world-class athletes have tremendous drive and determination in and out of the classroom, and we hope they get their shot at fulfilling their dreams.”
Westminster’s U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association athletes study a variety of subjects at the college and have an average cumulative G.P.A of 3.65. More than one third of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team is comprised of Westminster students. These student-athletes must balance their rigorous training and competition schedules along with their academic courses.
