Park City Mountain Resort Opens Utah’s First Superpipe of the 2011-12 Season
December 20, 2011
· 22-foot Olympic-size Eagle Superpipe is open to the public
· Eagle Superpipe is first to open in Utah
· New dirtwork foundation provides earlier opening date than last season
Park City, Utah (December 21, 2011) – Park City Mountain Resort’s 22-foot Eagle Superpipe opened to the public for the 2011-2012 season today, Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Dirtwork completed this past summer allowed the pipe to open several weeks earlier than last season and makes it Utah’s first halfpipe of the 2011-2012 season.
“This is one of earliest dates that we’ve opened the superpipe, with perfect timing right before the holiday season,” said Jeremy Cooper, terrain park manager at Park City Mountain Resort. “Obviously the dirtwork we did this past summer gave us a good jumpstart, however the hard work of our talented snowmakers, groomers and pipe cutter is what creates a pipe that lives up to its reputation as one of the best in the world.”
The Eagle Superpipe is the training ground for some of the biggest names in action sports, including Park City All Stars Kazu Kokubo, Torah Bright, Joss Christensen and Tanner Hall. It was the venue for the men’s and women’s snowboard halfpipe events at the 2002 Winter Games. More recently, it hosted the 2011 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships halfpipe competition, showcasing ski halfpipe so successfully that, just months later, it was named a medal event for the 2014 Winter Games.
Fans who are unable to get to the mountain can watch all the Superpipe action live 24/7 via the Resort’s “Cobra Cam,” located at Cobra Dogs at the base of the Eagle Superpipe and 3 Kings Terrain Park.
