Powder Mountain to be Purchased by Summit

December 3, 2012

Eden, Utah (Dec 3, 2012) – Summit, producer of the influential leadership conference called Summit Series, announced today that it took over management of Powder Mountain, the largest ski resort in the United States by skiable acreage, on November 5, 2012.

Described as “the hipper Davos” by Forbes and “Burning Man meets TED” by Wired, Summit’s mission is to “catalyze business opportunity, address global issues, support creative achievement, and create community in an effort to make our world a more joyful place.” Summit was founded in 2008 when Elliott Bisnow, then 23, convened 19 young entrepreneurs for a three-day event in Park City, Utah designed to help the business leaders create pathways to achieve their personal, professional, and altruistic goals.

Summit Series has since evolved into an annual gathering of 1000 of the world’s leading entrepreneurs, artists, non-profit leaders, scientists, and other change makers. Past attendees have included Richard Branson, Bill Clinton, Peter Thiel, Beth Comstock, and Grammy-winning musicians The Roots. Summit Series events have helped raised tens of millions of dollars for new business and social ventures, including a 71 square mile marine reserve created in partnership with the Nature Conservancy.

“Our goal is to preserve and enhance the powder and adventure skiing experience—and family skiing value for which Powder Mountain has been the definitive hidden gem,” said Elliott Bisnow, 27, founder and CEO of Summit.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the acquisition by Summit,” said Gregg Greer, general manager of Powder Mountain. “The more I’ve come know the founders and entire Summit crew, the more I’ve found a common love, respect and stoke for our mountain and perhaps most encouraging a deep commitment to maintaining, protecting and preserving the characteristics that make Powder Mountain wholly unique.  The future is indeed bright.”

Since the first lift began running in 1972, Powder Mountain has been the most aptly named resort in skiing, consistently receiving more than 500 inches of snow annually.  Powder Mountain has also expanded over the years and now features over 10,000+ acres of skiable terrain, more than any other resort in the United States.  Year after year, Powder Mountain is recognized out of 400 resorts by SKI Magazine Readers and is consistently ranked the #1 Value Resort with Top 10 rankings in the Snow, Character and Overall Satisfaction categories.

“Although awareness has been increasing, most skiers and boarders are surprised to learn that Powder Mountain gets twice the snowfall of many well known Colorado resorts and is twice the size of the second largest ski area in the United States.” Commented Greg Mauro, Managing Partner of Summit Mountain Group.

Located in the mountains above Eden, Utah Powder Mountain will continue to welcome its local and destination guests like family, with Summit committed to maintaining the beloved character of the resort for its day guests, as well as creating a truly unique destination for third-party events, retreats, and year-round adventures.

On the southwest side of the mountain, Summit will be curating a one of a kind, sustainably designed residential community called Summit Eden, which will become home base for the organization and its distinctive leadership and cultural events, The idea, according to Bisnow, is to “create an epicenter of innovation and the premier destination community for the exchange of world changing ideas”.
