Powderbird Wraps 38th Season with Promising Gains
April 15, 2011
Snowbird, Utah—April 15, 2011—Wasatch Powderbird Guides, heli-skiing and snowboarding enterprise based at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, has completed flight operations for the 2010-2011 season, marking the company's 38th consecutive season in business. Powderbird helicopters flew a total of 54 days this season and were grounded 57 days due to high winds, heavy cloud cover, and numerous severe snow storms—on par for an average fly-day to no-fly-day season ratio.
2010-2011 was a landmark season for Powderbird, as it represents the beginning of a new relationship with Canyons Resort, in Park City. UT. The heli-skiing company has operated periodically out of the Canyons dating back to the late 1980s, however, this past winter signaled the advent of a new and enduring relationship with the Canyons. Total reservations were up 53% over the previous season, proving the success of the new Canyons branch of operations. Powderbird also expanded their merchandise offerings this past season, increasing sales by 46% from the 2009-2010 season. The heli operator recently launched an online store to support new merchandise options and provide a convenient shopping experience for out-of-town guests.
“Despite the fact that we faced some unfavorable weather patterns this winter in Utah, we still experienced our typical high quality snow, and we had the distinguished privilege to ski and snowboard with old friends and new faces alike—overall we had an amazing season,” says Powderbird General Manager Kevin O'Rourke. “We're very excited to join the Canyons family and provide a second base of operation to our Park City clients. We look forward to continuing to build our relationship with Snowbird and the Canyons Resort as we gear up for another successful season.”
Powderbird is currently guiding an exciting heli-skiing adventure in glacial Greenland and has a number of other International excursions planned for the off-season. The company is now accepting reservations for the 2011-2012 season. Interested skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to call 801-742-2800 or email info@powderbird.com to lock in dates for next season.
