Six Westminster Students Named to 2011 FIS World Freestyle Ski Championship Team
February 3, 2011
PARK CITY, Utah – Six Westminster students have been named to
the 2011 FIS World Freestyle Ski Championship Team announced Monday at Deer
Valley Resort.
From moguls to aerials, the students will compete for top placement on the
podium.
Dylan Ferguson (sophomore) and World Champion Ryan St Onge (junior) have been
named to the Men's Aerials Team. Sho Kashima (sophomore) and 2010 Olympic
Bronze medalist Bryon Wilson (freshman) have been named to the Men's Dual
Moguls Team. Olympian Heather McPhie (junior) has been named to the Women's
Moguls and Dual Moguls Teams. David DiGravio (freshman) has been named to Men's
Moguls.
Westminster's USSA athletes work hard to balance their rigorous training
schedule with their academic pursuits. The college currently has more than 50
students on the U.S. Ski and Snowboarding Team who compete in a variety of
disciplines, from snowboarding to cross-country skiing.
"I never thought it was possible to balance school and sport, but
Westminster allows me to do both and excel in both," explained St. Onge, a
junior at Westminster. "Westminster has helped to make my dreams come
true. At no point did either my education or my training detract from one
another. In fact, just the opposite happened. I became a better skier the more
knowledge I gained in college. I became a much better aerialist after going to
college and learning about the world in which we live."
Westminster is Official Partner of Higher Education to the U.S. Ski and
Snowboard Team and offers a USSA Tuition Grant program to all current U.S. Ski
and Snowboard Team national athletes and qualifying alumni. For more
