Ski Utah Hosts Snow Total Guess Contest to Support Japan Relief Fund
April 13, 2011
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH- Utah has been absolutely gifted with a phenomenally snowy winter this season. In an effort to share its blessings, Ski Utah is hosting a "snow total guess campaign" on the Ski Utah Yeti Facebook page (www.facebook.com/theskiutahyeti) beginning Wednesday, April 13, 2011. The Ski Utah Yeti has asked its fans to guess the Utah 2010-11 season ending snow total as of May 1, 2011. Ski Utah will then make a donation in the amount of the total snowfall (i.e. 650" = $650) to the Japan Relief Fund in the winner's name.
Alta Ski Area is currently reporting 637 inches of The Greatest Snow on Earth® with snowstorms in the forecast suggesting this could be one of the snowiest winters in Utah history. Alta Ski Area records snow each season between October 1 and May 1. To date, the most snow received between these dates was 748 inches during the 1981-82 season.
Despite April showers and blossoming blooms, many Utah resorts remain open for skiing and snowboarding. Canyons, Park City Mountain Resort, Snowbasin Resort and Solitude Mountain Resort plan to remain open through Sunday, April 17. Brian Head Resort, Brighton Resort and Alta Ski Area will remain open through Easter Sunday, April 24 with Alta will reopening April 29-May 1. This is the first time in many years that Alta has remained open into May. Last but not least, those snowriders looking for endless winter will be able to find it at Snowbird Ski and Summer resort which is currently reporting a 171-inch base depth and plans to remain open through Memorial Day or later (conditions pending).
