Snowbird Customer Appreciation Days Generates Over Two Tons of Food

November 4, 2010

MEDIA ALERT

Snowbird, Utah – Snowbird will deliver more than 5,000 pounds of food – the equivalent of 2,500 meals – collected during the resort’s annual Customer Appreciation Days to the Utah Food Bank at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 4. According to the Utah Food Bank, two pounds of donated food equals one average meal.

An exact figure of non-perishable food donated will be determined at the Utah Food Bank on Thursday at the new $10 million facility which opened last year. Snowbird’s Customer Appreciation Days raised 5,252 pounds of food in 2009.

In addition, $2,215 was raised for Wasatch Adaptive Sports, a non-profit program established in 1977 that helps afford recreational and educational opportunities for children and adults with special needs. Customer Appreciation Days, during which one can of food equals one free Tram ride, took place Oct. 16-17, 23-24 and 30-31. In lieu of food, customers were able to make a $2 donation for a Tram ride.

“The sunny weather mixed with weekday storms brought people out in droves and made Customer Appreciation Days a tremendous success this year,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. “Thank you to everyone who came out and supported two great causes.”

The drop-off of cans collected at Snowbird is part of the Utah Food Bank’s Holiday Food Drive. The food drive is an annual effort to stock the shelves of the Utah Food Bank in preparation for the holidays and the winter months.
