Snowbird to Deliver Food to Utah Food Bank

November 9, 2011

SNOWBIRD, UTAH – Snowbird collected thousands of cans of food and many hygiene items for the Utah Food Bank during the resort’s annual Customer Appreciation Days. The donation will be presented to the Utah Food Bank on Nov. 9 at 10 a.m., and media are invited to the delivery. In addition, a financial contribution was raised for Wasatch Adaptive Sports.

“Thank you to everyone who came out and supported two great causes,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. “We sincerely hope this will make a difference for Utah families in need.”

Guests were asked to donate one can of food in exchange for one free Tram ride, or in lieu of food customers could also make a $3 donation to Wasatch Adaptive Sports. The food collected at Snowbird will add to the 33.3 million pounds of food already distributed by the Utah Food Bank. The food will help some of the 10 percent of Utahns who live in poverty.

“November is a critical time for the emergency food network and we are in great need for donations,” said Ginette Bott, Utah Food Bank Chief Marketing Officer. “We are very appreciative for the on-going generosity of Snowbird and community members alike who give their support of food, cash and volunteer time.”

Wasatch Adaptive Sports is a non-profit educational foundation providing outdoor recreational activities for children and adults with special needs. Established by Peter Mandler in 1977, Wasatch Adaptive Sports reaches 1,800 participants through its year-round programs.

Offering the longest ski and snowboard season in Utah, Snowbird is scheduled to open for the 2011-12 season on Saturday, Nov. 19, weather permitting.
