Snowstorms in the forecast for Utah Ski Resorts - Don’t Miss an Inch with New Ski Utah App
January 17, 2012
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH- Sundance Film Festival stars aren’t the only thing flocking to Utah’s mountain resorts this weekend. Forecasts suggest that Utah’s high-pressure cycle is ending with the possibility for back-to-back snowstorms throughout the weekend. Utah resorts are forecasted to receive as much as 20 inches of The Greatest Snow on Earth® by Thursday afternoon with additional chances for snow accumulation throughout the weekend.
“We have a very big change in the weather pattern coming,” said Salt Lake City based National Weather Service Hydrologist Brian McInerney. “A moist westerly flow is forecast to move into Northern Utah Wednesday afternoon. The storm system is expected to have multiple embedded storms and last through Monday morning.”
Just in time for winter storms and powder skiing, Ski Utah has launched a new Application for iPhone. The new App provides 24-hour and 48-hour snow reporting for all of Utah’s 14 ski and snowboard resorts. Additionally, the app has a revamped user interface and includes road conditions for all resorts. Once skiers arrive at the resort of their choice, they will be able to check-in at the resort as well.
The entertaining ‘statistics’ function lets skiers and riders set goals for the number of days and vertical feet they hope to achieve. For example, the function categorizes people achieving 0-30 days on the slopes as a Weekend Warrior, 31-60 days as the Call of the Wild level, 61-90 days as Local Status, 91-120 as Mountain Man (or Woman) status and over 120 as King of the Hill.
In addition to the new features, the Ski Utah app provides users with easy access to Hot Deals, up-to-date photos and video, Ski Utah Blog articles, event listings and more. The new Ski Utah app is free and available for iPhone at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ski-utah-snow-report/id338725687?mt=8
An upgraded version for Android will also be available soon.
