Weekend Festivities Slated at Snowbasin to Benefit Adaptive Sports
February 17, 2010
SNOWBASIN, Utah – Two days of events have been slated at Snowbasin to benefit Snowbasin Adaptive Sports Education Foundation (SASEF), a non-profit organization providing snowsports opportunities to the disabled community to enjoy with their families and friends. The weekend will help SASEF raise funds to purchase additional adaptive equipment and programs.
A winter carnival will take place at Snowbasin on Saturday, March 20th. The carnival will provide a variety of family fun activities, and has been designed to educate the community in the world of adaptive skiing and snowboarding and increase awareness of Snowbasin Adaptive Sports. The carnival is open to the public from 9am – 3pm. Activities include a tubing hill ride, mini snow golf, blindfold ski shuffle, long ski stomp, snow bowling, face painting, temporary hair coloring, and a snow sculpture contest. Participants will also be eligible for a raffle for a pair of new skis, a set of golf clubs, or a painting by a local artist. Tickets include cotton candy, popcorn, hotdogs, music and more. Tickets are available in the Snowbasin Learning Center for $15 in advance, and $20 the day of the event.
On Sunday, March 21, Retro Day will take place at Snowbasin. The day will showcase a contrast between ‘then and now’ in the sport of skiing. The public is invited to join the fun by dressing in retro ski attire and gear. A DJ will spin retro tunes on the patio from 1:30 – 4:30pm for an authentic party, and a costume parade will take place at 3pm for prizes. A ski museum of retro equipment will be on display, and various manufacturers that will have new progressive equipment for the public to learn about and demo. A minimum $5 donation to SASEF is suggested to take a demo run.
“We are passionate about improving the lives of people with disabilities through sport and recreation,” said Jim Bradley, SASEF board member and certified instructor. Snowbasin Adaptive Sports Education Foundation provides support for adaptive snowsports programs held at Snowbasin. Donations will be used to purchase additional adaptive equipment and programming.
