HIGH WEST TOASTS DERBY DAY WITH NATIONAL RELEASE OF YIPPEE KI-YAY®

High West Distillery and Saloon, Utah’s first legal distillery since 1870, hosts its eighth annual Derby Day Celebration on Saturday, May 6, and will unveil the latest edition of their limited release whiskey blend, Yippee Ki-Yay®.

PARK CITY, UTAH (April 2017) — High West Distillery and Saloon, Utah’s first legal distillery since 1870, hosts its eighth annual Derby Day Celebration on Saturday, May 6, and will unveil the latest edition of their limited release whiskey blend, Yippee Ki-Yay®

Tickets are now on sale for High West Distillery’s celebration of the 143rd Kentucky Derby. From 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., guests will savor High West’s award-winning food and drink menus, spirited live music, and witness “the most exciting two minutes in sports” on High West’s big screen at approximately 4:20 p.m. Tickets are $50.

A cash bar will be serving High West’s acclaimed spirits and signature cocktails, along with Yippee Ki-Yay, a distinct blend of straight rye whiskeys aged from 2 to 16 years, finished in wine barrels previously used to age robust wines, Syrah and Vermouth.

“Each year we host guests for Derby Day, it’s clear that race-day spectators often double as whiskey lovers,” said High West Head of Hospitality, James Dumas. “We’re thrilled to release this limited-edition blend – a robust creation of bold flavors best served at room temp, neat, or any way enthusiasts prefer to sip. The spirit’s jovial namesake, ‘Yippee Ki-Yay,’ felt like the perfect sentiment to properly toast Kentucky’s Run for the Roses.”

The remaining notes of Syrah and Vermouth, married with the straight rye whiskey blend, feature a nose of spicy cinnamon stick, dried thyme, rose petal, and fruit leather, with notes of rich cocoa nibs and brown sugar with time in the glass. The palate will savor flavors of bold cinnamon spice and orange rind, trailed by silky layers of vanilla and blackberry, with a lingering finish of clover honey, black currants, and subtle mint.
