Free Freeride Clinics at Powder Mountain - February 14, 2010
Powder Mountain is offering complimentary freeride clinics for skiers and boarders every Wednesday evening through March. Coaches meet participants in the Sundown Lodge at 5:30 PM. A season pass or a night lift pass is required. A night lift pass is $12 for ages 7 - 12 and $15 for 13 years and up. Minors must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

Powder Mountain Adds a New Mountain Adventure Tou - February 10, 2010
Powder Mountain is now offering guided tours to Wolf Canyon, known locally as DMI. Wolf Canyon encompasses approximately 1,000 skiable acres and has a 3,000 foot vertical drop for anyone willing to take a short hike up to James Peak, the resort's highest peak. Major Snowstorm Welcomes Sundance Film Festival to Utah - January 21, 2010
Up to 40,000 movie-goers and celebrities are expected to flock to Park City, UT this week for the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. However, films and parties will not be the only action at the festival this year as a major winter storm has landed in Park City as well. Park City ski resorts have received as much as 17 inches of snow in the past 48 hours and forecasts suggest that an additional two feet of snow may fall by Sunday. Other Utah resorts have reported as much as 26 inches of snow in the last 48 hours and are also expecting additional accumulation throughout the weekend.

Snowbird Receives 7 Feet in Seven Days - January 21, 2010
Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort received 7 feet of snow over the last week thanks to a succession of powerful storms. Snowbird’s year to date snow totals started at 141 inches on Jan. 18 and increased steadily throughout the week, totaling 225 inches by the afternoon of Jan. 25. The resort’s mid-mountain base depth currently measures 93 inches, with 100 percent of all terrain and lifts currently open.

Stein Eriksen Lodge and The Chateaux at Silver Lake are fundraising to assist the Albert Schweitzer Hospital (www.hashaiti.org), located forty miles North West of Port-Au-Prince. The hospital has been operating continuously, since the earthquake, and medical supplies that would have lasted the facility months were consumed in the first days after the earthquake.

The 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City were an astounding success. Snowbasin, which hosted the men and women’s downhill and super G events, will celebrate Utah’s volunteer legacy on January 30th. Snowbasin Announcec Ski Bus Service on Saturday - January 7, 2010
Just like the good old days, bus service is scheduled to begin on Saturday, January 9th to Snowbasin. Service will run every Saturday with a bus from South Davis County making three stops before continuing to Snowbasin, and South Ogden making two additional stops before its final destination at the resort. Round-trip is $6, and reservations are suggested to guarantee a place on bus.

Deer Valley Resort will host the 2010 Visa Freestyle International World Cup beginning Thursday, January 14 through Saturday, January 16. More than 300 athletes from approximately two dozen countries will participate in the competitions. This World Cup marks Deer Valley’s 12th year of hosting freestyle competition, including the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, the 2003 FIS Freestyle World Championships, 1999 Chevy Truck U.S. Freestyle Championships and seven World Cups (2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009).

Backcountry Rescue Training at Snowbird This Friday, Jan. 8 - January 5, 2010
Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, in partnership with Wasatch Backcountry Rescue (WBR), University of Utah Health Care’s AirMed and the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting backcountry rescue training this Friday, Jan. 8. Snowbird collected more than two and a half tons of non-perishable food for the Utah Food Bank during the resort’s annual Customer Appreciation Days. The 5,252 pounds – the equivalent of 4,103 meals – was presented to the Utah Food Bank on Nov. 11 at the organizations new $10 million facility. In addition, $1,200 was raised for the Wasatch Adaptive Sports Program.

Utah Tourism Industry Leaders Appointed to State Board - October 13, 2009
New to the Board of Tourism Development are Nathan Rafferty, the president of Ski Utah, who will represent the ski industry, and Joel Racker, the president and chief executive officer of the Utah Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau, who will represent Utah, Summit, Juab, and Wasatch counties. Rafferty was communications director for Ski Utah for seven years before he was promoted to president in 2005. He’s a graduate of the University of Arizona.
