POW Day Success

Huge thanks to everyone who made Utah's inaugural POW Day a success by carpooling and riding the ski bus. In case you couldn't join us, here's a first hand account of this historic day.
POW Day Success

There was reason to celebrate in Utah this past January 13th, 2017. Protect Our Winters (POW) teamed up with Alta, Snowbird, Powder Mountain, Sundance Mountain Resort, Snocru, Ski Utah, Ski Butlers, Discrete and many more to create an actionable day where skiers and riders were challenged to travel to the mountains in an environmentally responsible manner.

"The bigger picture here is for us all to break from our habits and consider traveling to the mountains via ski bus or carpooling with friends."—Chris Steinkamp Executive Director of POW

The second annual #POWDay17 was a huge success with over 1,000 people traveling to Alta, Powder Mountain, Snowbird and Sundance in style—either by carpooling or riding the ski bus. What's the true environmental impact of 1,000 people carpooling/taking the ski bus? It's powerful stuff. Our efforts offset the same as a 2,455 acre forest (roughly the size of Snowbird) absorbing CO2.

We're proud of these numbers but the real message in this day is for ALL of us to continue to travel into the mountains responsibly. We're not saying you need to ride the Ski Bus or carpool every time you head into the mountains, but start somewhere and every bit helps. Did you know that both Snowbird and Solitude celebrate POW Day every day by rewarding those carpool or take the Ski Bus?

• At Snowbird you can earn a half-priced transferrable ski ticket for 10 carpooling trips, plus preferential parking.

• At Solitude you can also earn a half-priced ticket for 10 carpooling trips or coffee or hot chocolate after just 5 carpooling trips.

Not only did these green shredders keep cars out of the canyon they were also treated with some high-quality swag.

New this year, a little friendly competition was created to see which of the four resorts would attract the most carpoolers and ski bus riders. This year we crown Snowbird king, who edged out Sundance Mountain Resort in terms of the most participants. On behalf of POW Day, Snowbird gets to proudly display this trophy at their resort for the next year.

Thanks again to all of those who participated in Utah's Second Annual POW Day. #POWDay17
