Where to Find Romance on Utah’s Slopes

Romantic dinners, spa treatments, and fat bikes…huh? Here in Utah, we have our own way of celebrating Valentine’s Day. If you’re looking for Valentine’s Day ideas, one of the best places to check are local ski resorts. Surprised?

I did some of the checking for you and found a few examples of events around the state. Spending the day solo? Several of these ideas would be perfect for treating yourself to a great day as well!

Beaver Mountain

Get competitive with your sweetheart. The Beav is offering their first Banked Slalom Race for all abilities on Valentine’s Day. This race is for both skiers and snowboarders. It’s just you and the clock as you race down a banked course, around gates, in natural terrain. Registration is at 9:00 am and the race begins at 11:00 am.

Beaver Mountain is also hosting Miss Utah (Karlie Major), on Valentine’s Day. She grew up in the area and learned to ski at the Beav.

Powder Mountain

Fatty Valentine

Spend Valentine’s Day with your Fatty. Powder Mountain is hosting the inaugural Fat Bike National Championships this week, including an amateur event on the 14th.

“Saturday, February 14th the amateur event will start at 9:00am followed with open races at 1:00pm. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy race day with a top-shelf view of the course or wander through the expo village that will include Volkswagen, Rockstar, Sierra Nevada, Borealis, Bar Mitts and local favorites Roosters, Daily Rise, The Bike Shoppe and more. For those looking into a fat bike of their own, Rockstar has provided an opportunity for those in attendance to win a fat bike. Borealis and local bike shops will once again provide free fat bike demos,” explained a recent press release.

Snowbasin

Culinary Expeditions at Snowbasin

Snowbasin knows how to pull off romance on the slopes. As part of their Culinary Expeditions series, they are hosting a lovely Valentine’s Day event including a romantic gondola ride to Needles Lodge, a four course meal with a rose and chocolate for that special someone in your life. Sadly, I found out this event is sold out, however, you can catch other Culinary Expedition events such as Tequila Dinner and a Winter Beer and Food Festival next month. Solitude

Dinner at St. Bernard's

Valentine’s dinner at St. Bernard’s is spectacular! My sweetie and I had dinner there last year and it was among the best dinners of my life. This year they are hosting a five course tasting-menu prepared by Solitude Dining Director, Greg Neville.

The menu will be available after 5:00pm, Friday, February 13th to Monday, February 16th. To make a reservation, please call 801-535-4120 The regular menu will not be available during this time.

Additionally, if you are looking for a great gift idea, treat your loved one to a massage or facial at Solitude's Mountain Spa. The Mountain Spa has a number of treatments sure to help you unwind and refresh. Couple's massages are available too!
