X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival. (Not just another film festival)

By Ride Utah Jan 11, 2012
For one insane week each winter, the worlds’ top action sport filmmakers and athletes, along with cutting–edge bands and DJs and key figures from the entertainment industry, gather in Salt Lake City, Utah, to celebrate action sports culture at the annual X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival.
X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival. (Not just another film festival)

Another January in Utah and high pressure isn’t the only annual anomaly that lays over Utah like a prevalent beast. Salt Lake hosts an annual film festival. And, no I’m not referring to the tremendously hyped Sundance Film Festival, which on its own regard does a great job, but the annual X-Dance Film Festival.

Started 12 years ago, this film festival started up like most film festivals, in the shadow of Sundance, but unlike Lap-Dance, Van-Dance and Trauma-Dance, X-Dance has persisted and become the go-to festival for action sports films. I’ve (Josh Scheuerman, Ride Utah ambassador) attended and volunteered for a number of those years and believe that each movie, each sport, highlighted deserves to be seen by a greater audience and the combined accomplishments in the action world.

The festival debuts before Sundance this year in hopes of drawing ticket holders before the madness of Sundance, while encouraging the film industry and audience alike to get out and see independent movies. Starting Thursday, January 12 and running to Sunday, January 15, screenings are held from 1 pm – 10pm with the kick-off party sponsored by Red Bull after the showing of Art of Flight Thursday night. Tickets run $8 per screening, $15 per day or for the best deal, $30 for the whole festival. So kick-start your festival spirit and get out and support film makers and athletes alike.

Enjoy these trailers for each day to showcase the types of films, quality and range of the movies. For more details visit:X-Dance.com

Lost & Found

Friday, January 13 – 7:00 pm

While attending a flea market in Los Angeles Doug Walker discovered several boxes containing 30,000 black & white negatives. After spending over a year organizing this amazing collection his journey began, setting out to find the photographers as well as the surfers that were captured in these special photographs. Doug spent 3 years researching and interviewing legends like Aaron Chang, Dan Merkel (aka “Man Mountain”) & Bob Barbour. After hearing their stories Doug realized there was something much bigger that needed to be told. And that’s the stories.

Denali Experiment

Saturday, January 14 – 6:30 pm

Free-ride skier Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and big mountain snowboarder Lucas Debari step out of their elements and make an attempt to climb, ski and snowboard Denali. Sage and Lucas get a helping hand from a huge cast of seasoned and professional climbers and ski mountaineers from the North Face Athlete Team, including Hilaree O’Neil, Conrad Anker, Ingrid Backstrom, Him Zellers, Emilio Previtali and Giulia Monego, as the two embark on the hardest expedition of their lives.

Plus many, many more…
