Yeti High-Fives: Winter is Near

Winter is knocking on the doorstep, and with it comes Yeti High-Fives—a bi-weekly installment of what’s happening and what’s cool in the land of The Greatest Snow on Earth. Follow along all winter long as the Yeti shares his best tips, local vibes, and promises not to share his bad breath.

Welcome to the first edition. It’s an honor to have you here. This week I am here to help you raise your stoke level, set up your calendar, and stock your gear closet to start the season off right.

Coolest Video

It’s no secret that Marcus Caston absolutely shreds. The Utah boy knows how to put it on edge and arc a ski, no matter the conditions. I’ve been watching his latest video on repeat ever since it was released earlier this fall. Filmed entirely inbounds at Snowbird, Caston shows that it doesn’t have to be a blower pow day to get after it and have a good time.

Really though, check out this guy. Cam McLeod is a professional photographer based in Ogden, and while not a household name yet, he will be. Images from right here in Utah stand out as some of his best, including one image that recently landed him as a finalist in Red Bull Illume, an international photo competition.

Gear Up

Your full kit is ready to go for the season. Check. New shred sticks, that flossy new jacket, the pants to match, but don’t forget a helmet to protect your brain. Check. The Smith Vantage looks sleek while maximizing protection with Smith’s Aerocore construction. The best detail though is the Boa fit that allows you to fine tune how it wraps around your melon, making the helmet comfortable and secure. Check it out here.

Hot Dates

Well, this one is obvious, don’t miss opening day at your favorite ski resort. Brighton is planning to open as soon as they can, so let’s hope it gets cold and stays cold. For a full list of opening dates, check out the resort page.

In The News

Utah now has not one, but the two biggest ski areas in the U.S. Last year, Park City’s expansion to become the largest resort was the talk of the West. This year though, Powder Mountain announced the addition of two new lifts and 1,000 acres of new terrain, quickly entering into the conversation as one of the biggest ski resorts in the U.S. Read more here

In honor of the first Yeti High-Fives post we want to give a high-five to one of our favorite non-profits in the ski industry, the High Fives Foundation. They support action sport athletes by spreading injury prevention awareness and helping those that sustain life-altering injuries.
