Ogden, Utah (December 2017) - The GOAL Foundation, producers of the Ogden Marathon, will be doing their final round of putting shoes on kids as part of their year-long Young Runners Program Wednesday, December 20, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Odyssey Elementary, 375 Goddard Street, Ogden, UT 84401. One of three school visits this month, Odyssey Elementary currently has over 60 children who participate in the Young Runners Program.
The GOAL Foundation has been positively impacting the lives of local elementary school-aged children through their Young Runners Program for over 10 years. The program provides running activities and games, and the goal is simple: To encourage kids to lead healthy and active lifestyles outdoors. They accomplish this through their partnership with the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club afterschool programs. The program is funded by personal donations and proceeds from the Ogden Marathon.
The GOAL Foundation Young Runners Program is active in 16 schools in the Ogden and Weber School districts with over 700 kids participating. 350 Elementary school-aged children will be gifted new running shoes as part of the program by the end of the year.
The end goal for these kids is a free entry into the Granite Construction Kids K or the Kimberly Clark 5K. “It is just incredible to watch the progress of these kids throughout the year and see them cross the same world-class finish line as athletes from all over the nation and world,” said, Jenny Scothern, Executive Director.
