WHAT:
Talk about making a splash!
Utah Olympic Park is celebrating the grand opening of the Spence Eccles Olympic Freestyle Pool — its newly expanded and renovated athlete training pool.
As part of the festivities, the Flying Ace All-Stars — featuring Olympic-caliber athletes — will take to the air and water, delivering a special evening performance of aerial acrobatics ending in big splash-downs into the pool. The Utah Olympic Park will also host its free 2015 Olympic Day that afternoon, a family-friendly festival including an Olympian meet-and-greet, sport-themed booths, event demonstrations, bounce houses, barbecue, arts and crafts and more.
Named for philanthropist Spencer F. “Spence” Eccles, whose $1 million challenge gift in 2014 helped jump-start the project’s fundraising campaign, the Eccles Pool is one of the most heavily-used training facilities of Utah’s Olympic Legacy Foundation venues.
The new pool features seven ramps designed for aerials, moguls, freeskiing, snowboarding and big air, plus expanded capacity and innovative new technology that will greatly enhance the training for Olympic, elite and youth athletes.
