Park City, Utah Embarks on a Historic 2015-2016 Ski Season

America’s most accessible ski destination announces winter openings, expansions and special events

PARK CITY, UTAH (October 2015) – Kicking off a historic winter season with the unveiling of the largest ski resort in the U.S., the renowned ski destination of Park City, Utah will offer several new activities and amenities for visitors during the 2015-16 ski season. From its authentic and historic ambience to its award-winning dining and vibrant nightlife, Park City is the perfect backdrop for a winter vacation.

Ski Resorts Expand and Launch Winter Operations

It’s a new era in Park City as Vail Resorts opens Park City, the largest single ski and snowboard resort in the United States, this upcoming 2015-16 ski season, with the completion of a $50 million renovation connecting Park City Mountain Resort with the former Canyons Resort. Park City offers over 7,300 acres, 300+ trails and 41 lifts, plus many diverse ski-in/ski-out and village adjacent lodging properties.

The new high speed two-way gondola, Quicksilver, will take guests from the base of the existing Silverlode Lift at Park City to the Flatiron Lift area at Canyons. There will also be an additional mid-station at the top of Pine Cone Ridge, allowing skiers and riders the opportunity to ski into Thaynes Canyon via gated ski access or to the Iron Mountain area through new trails.

Park City will spice things up by replacing the old Snow Hut restaurant with the brand new Miners Camp restaurant, conveniently located at the base of Silverlode Lift and the future base terminal of the Quicksilver Gondola. Doubling in size, the new dining spot will boast 500 indoor seats.

Additional dining upgrades include increased seating capacity, enhancements and renovations to Red Pine Lodge and Summit House restaurants. Park City will open for the 2015-16 ski season on November 21, 2015. Click here for more information.

Deer Valley Resort

Upholding the elite reputation of delivering an unmatched experience for the ideal winter vacation, Deer Valley Resort is honored to be ranked #1 in the categories of Access, Guest Service, Dining, On-Mountain Food and Lodging by the readers of SKI Magazine for 2016.

Recognized for its award-winning cuisine, Deer Valley adds to their on-mountain dining offerings this season with the new Bald Mountain Pho located in the Bald Mountain Room of Silver Lake Lodge. Skiers can warm up after a morning on the slopes with an authentic Vietnamese Pho bowl. Bald Mountain Pho is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Winter lodging packages are available for early and late season, holiday season, mid-season and everything in between, allowing ample opportunity to ski at Deer Valley Resort during the 2015-16 winter season.

Park City, UT Offers Ski and Lodging Specials for Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Weekend

Tupelo Joins Park City’s Award-Winning Dining Scene

Slated to open in November 2015, Tupelo is the newest addition to Park City’s culinary scene. Chef Matthew Harris will lead the culinary team with his epicurean expertise, reflecting his cross-country travels and native Southern roots. Chef Harris began his culinary career in Atlanta as the Executive Chef of the Buckhead Diner and then went on to train with the famed Jean-Georges Vongerichten, opening Atlanta’s critically acclaimed Market and St. Regis Deer Valley’s J&G Grill. Chef Harris has appeared on CBS’Fresh From The Kitchen” as a celebrity chef, and has been recognized in Food and Wine Magazine, SKI Magazine and Esquire.

Park City Food Tours is branching out this winter by offering visitors activity based food excursions, including snowshoe, historical, gallery and scavenger hunt tours, for a unique eat-like-a-local experience. Local Libations Warm Up Winter

High West Distillery, Utah’s award-winning whiskey maker and the first legal distillery in Utah since 1870, recently celebrated the grand opening of its new 30,000-square-foot world-class distillery and visitor center on Blue Sky Ranch. The new home of the best whiskey in the West officially opened its new facilities to the public on Wednesday, September 9, inviting guests to enjoy high country food-pairings and savory libations on Wednesday – Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Exclusive educational tours and tastings are offered at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Reservations are strongly encouraged. Wasatch Brew Pub, a local Main Street favorite, is offering a $5 Bourbon and Beer promotion on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays to correspond with the NFL football schedule. The Pub invites all to watch the season games on large projection screens and enjoy a shot of Benchmark Bourbon for only $5 or a 12 ounce pour of award-winning craft brews.

Off Mountain Adventures Await

Park City offers various winter activities that take visitors beyond the slopes. Recognized by USA Today as one of the top ten U.S. sleigh dinner operators, experience a pristine country sleigh ride and log cabin dinner by the river and through the woods with Rocky Mountain Sleigh Company.

Wintertime horse-drawn sleigh rides are available at Deer Valley Resort, a perfect pre- or post-dinner activity at Deer Valley’s Fireside Dining. The Viking Yurt sleigh ride will take guests 1,800 feet up the runs of Park City Mountain Resort for an elegant five-course meal with the stunning nighttime views in the area, accompanied by live music.

Park City Yoga Adventure’s Snowshoe and Yoga includes a snowshoe walk through fresh snow and one hour of yoga. Warm up with another must-do activity: an hour of Paddleboard Yoga in the sparkling blue, mineral rich 10,000-year-old Homestead Crater.

Offering seven lift-served tubing lanes for downhill adventure for the whole family to enjoy, Gorgoza Park is available for snow tubing this season.

Utah Olympic Park (UOP), the venue for several events during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, offers various events and activities all winter long. UOP invites guests to experience Extreme Tubing, the new adventure activity that allows participants to reach speeds up to 50 mph by sliding down the landing hills of the iconic K64 and K90 Nordic ski jumps.

2016 Sundance Film Festival, Snowden and the Village People Headline Park City’s Arts & Entertainment Calendar

Holiday Happenings in Park City

A highlight of winter, Historic Park City’s month-long schedule of event festivities, will kick off with the annual Electric Light Parade on November 28. Please find a complete schedule of events here.

On December 24, Santa will visit Deer Valley Resort, and the resort will continue a beloved tradition, the annual Torchlight Parade, which will take place on December 30, featuring synchronized skiing, along with complimentary hot cider and cookies.

Park City Mountain Resort will spread some holiday cheer in December, as Santa Claus will arrive to Main Street on Park City’s Town Lift on December 19. Kicking off December 24, come join festivities of the traditional Torchlight Parade and Christmas Eve Celebration at the base area of the resort, followed by a New Year’s Eve Celebration at Canyons Village. During the holiday season, Montage Deer Valley is home to an exquisitely crafted life-size gingerbread house, sharing the secret recipe with all visitors.

Capping off the holiday season, the Park City Institute will ring in the New Year on December 31 with an intimate evening featuring Ann Wilson, best known as the lead singer for the sister rock band, Heart, at the Eccles Center.

Park City Welcomes World-Class Winter Sport Competitions in 2015-16

Utah Olympic Park continues to host internationally recognized winter sport competitions, drawing in athletes from around the world. On November 16-22, UOP will host the second season of the IBSF Para World Cup and the first IBSF World Championship. UOP will continue to host athletic events throughout the month of December, including the 2015 FIL Luge World Cup on December 7-12, and the FIS Nordic Continental Cup on December 11-13.

Welcoming athletes from over 20 countries to Utah, the IBSF Bobsled and Skeleton World Cup will take place on January 11-17. On February 1-7, Park City will host the 2016 Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix, while on February 3-6, the world’s best freestyle skiers will gather on the slopes of Deer Valley for the 2016 FIS Freestyle World Cup. UOP’s winter events wrap up in March with the ISBF Bobsled and Skeleton North America’s Cup, which will feature top U.S. and Canadian athletes.
