Park Meadows Country Club Hosted 2015 U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifier

Park Meadows Country Club hosted the 2015 U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifier on Monday, September 14th, 2015. 74 mid-amateur golfers including former Utah State Amateur Champions Don Horner, Jon Wright and Darrin Overson played the Nicklaus Signature course.

PARK CITY, Utah (September 16, 2015) – Park Meadows Country Club hosted the 2015 U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifier on Monday, September 14th, 2015. 74 mid-amateur golfers including former Utah State Amateur Champions Don Horner, Jon Wright and Darrin Overson played the Nicklaus Signature course.

“We were honored to be chosen for the site of the 2015 U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifier,” said Russ Olsen CEO of Stein Eriksen Lodge Management Corp. “The Park Meadows Nicklaus Signature course offers the quality, layout, yardage and difficulty that the USGA is looking for when selecting sites for national championship qualifiers.”

The Mid-Amateur, for amateur golfers of at least 25 years of age, provides a formal championship for the post-college amateur.  Before the arrival of the Mid-Amateur, the post-college player could compete in the Amateur Championship.  Older amateurs faced greater odds while fitting their golf around work and families.   The mid-amateur was created to give an even playing field to these older amateurs.

With players from 8 states represented, only four move on to the Mid-Amateur Championships.  The winters from the Mid-Amateur Qualifier include Ryan Brimley (medalist), Charles Archer, Darris Overson and Robbie Fillmore.

Over 5,000 players attempt to qualify for the Championship each year with only 264 qualifying.  The 2015 Mid-Amateur Championship will be hosted by John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, Florida October 2-8, 2015.  The winner of the 2015 U.S. Mid-Amateur will be invited to the 2016 Masters.
