DEER VALLEY RESORT; PARK CITY, UTAH (January 20, 2016) – As the world's best aerial and mogul athletes take to Deer Valley Resort's slopes for the 2016 FIS Visa Freestyle International Ski World Cup February 4-6, 2016, the resort will pay special homage to its late Director of Skiing and legend, Stein Eriksen. “Stein was an integral part of the Deer Valley family since the inception of the resort and his presence on the mountain is profoundly missed,” said Bob Wheaton, President and General Manager of Deer Valley Resort. “His influence in the ski industry and at this Resort was infinite and his legacy will forever live on here where he served as our Director of Skiing for more than 35 years.” The Stein Eriksen Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, February 4, in conjunction with the Freestyle World Cup aerial competition. The resort will commemorate Eriksen’s three gold medals at the 1954 World Championships in Åre, Sweden by contributing $54 of each lift ticket sold that day to the Youth Sports Alliance’s (YSA) Stein Eriksen YSA Opportunity Endowment Fund. The Stein Eriksen YSA Opportunity Endowment Fund is dedicated to providing support for youth to participate, learn, compete and excel in winter sports, something strongly advocated by Eriksen. Lift tickets on February 4, 2016 will feature a tribute to Eriksen and a commemorative pin has been sketched and designed by Stein Eriksen’s granddaughter Raymie. For each ticket holder and daytime World Cup event attendee, complimentary pins will be available at resort ticket offices. In addition, some of Stein’s favorite Norwegian foods will be served at resort restaurants throughout the day, including house-cured gravlax, house made venison meatballs, Marzipan Cake and special availability of Aquavit in the EBS Lounge at Snow Park and Royal Street Café. Finally, photo opportunities will be available around the mountain including Stein’s Way ski run, the Stein Eriksen Statue in front of Snow Park Lodge, and the torch located adjacent to the snow entrance of Stein Eriksen Lodge at the top of Viking chairlift. Guests are invited to use #CelebrateStein to upload their favorite photos throughout the day. Following the aerial event on Thursday morning February 4, a dedicated Celebration will take place from 1:35 – 2 p.m. at the World Cup aerial venue finish area. USSA, Vice President of Communications, Tom Kelly will serve as emcee as select friends and family of Stein share memories and stories during this special celebration, available to the public to watch. Aerial demonstrations of Stein’s famous front flip will be performed and a celebration video will play during the dedication. Following the evening aerial event on February 4, Deer Valley will present a check to YSA and a firework demonstration will conclude this special day to celebrate Stein. The FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup events will officially kick-off with an opening press conference for media on Wednesday, February 3 at 3:45 p.m. in the Bald Eagle Room of Snow Park Lodge, with top USSA athletes in attendance. All World Cup competitions are free to the public and will be held at night under the lights at Deer Valley Resort, with the exception of the Thursday morning aerial event, which was added due to a World Cup cancellation at Lake Placid. Please note, limited media access will be available to all events. Media must RSVP to Emily Summers at Emily@deervalley.com by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 to be considered for media credentials.
