OGDEN, Utah (June 2017) – It is summertime again and with that comes a slew of new and exciting activities for locals and visitors alike to enjoy. Events ranging from fine dining experiences to local music festivals to natural wonders can all be found on community member’s calendars this season. All around the city, local businesses, large resorts and government officials have been working tirelessly to create an unforgettable 2017 summer experience. Here are some popular events going on in Ogden this season that are essential to add to your summer-to-do list.
New Openings
There are several new businesses and attractions in and around Ogden this summer. One of these additions is New World Distillery. New World Distillery is located in Ogden Valley and produces premium beverage spirits that include gin, vodka and a variety of agave spirits. This distillery is host to private and public tours, varying spirits, and several summer music events.
Harp and Hound is a new gastropub in the Ogden area where customers are invited to eat, drink and be merry. In addition to being a popular watering-hole, Harp and Hound also offers patrons breakfast, lunch and dinner with vegan options available. Additionally, Harp and Hound holds live music events most weekend nights.
It is not every day that you get to throw an axe for fun. However, in Ogden it is. Social Axe, the first and only axe throwing club in Utah, is a great place to show your axe throwing skills. They encourage reservations for special events as well as single person walk-ins.
Snowbasin Resort Summer Events
Snowbasin Resort will be holding an array of impressive events this summer. New this year they will be introducing Movies on the Mountain, a series of family-friendly films. This free event will be held every Monday at 6 p.m. beginning June 26 and ending Aug. 7.
Symphony Under the Stars, presented by the Utah Symphony, will be showcasing "Patriotic Pops with Bravo Broadway at Snowbasin Resort" on June 30. The concert will benefit the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association.
Dining Discovery Events include John Paul Campout on July 14, Traditional Country Italian on July 29, the Cajun Crawfish Boil on Aug. 25 and Farm to Fork Dinner on Sept. 22. All dining events will be held at Needles Lodge where guests will savor delectable foods made with locally grown ingredients.
Snowbasin Resort will welcome Tour of Utah Cyclists as they finish Stage 2 of the race on Aug. 1. Cycling enthusiasts will gather to watch some of the worlds most talented and well-known cyclists traverse the mountainous landscape. Earl Lodge will also be open, giving visitors a great place to eat before, during or after their cyclist spottings.
Join Snowbasin Resort for a once in a lifetime Solar Eclipse Viewing event on Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. Those wanting to enjoy the beauty of the solar eclipse can travel up to Needles Lodge on a peaceful gondola ride. The eclipse will be appearing between 10 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Sounds Around Ogden
What’s that sound? It must be one of the great live concerts heading to Ogden this summer. All around the city you will find many different types of music flooding the restaurants, bars and streets seven nights a week.
Ogden Twilight is an Ogden bucket-list item. For $5, festival enthusiasts can listen to artists including OK GO, Louis the Child & TroyBoi, The Shins and Mike Snow, all appearing onstage at the events. Ogden Twilight is every Thursday at 6 p.m. now through June 29. Don’t miss out on great vendors and unforgettable performances.
Blues, Brews, and BBQ will be returning to Snowbasin Resort for its fifth year. This free event takes place every Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This concert series will begin June 11 and end Sept. 24. Featured artists include Los Lobos, Turnpike Troubadors and Andy Frasco.
Every Saturday beginning the end of June enjoy the serenity of being in the mountains while listing to live music at Nordic Valley Ski Resort. The Nordic Nights concerts are from 6-9 p.m. and are $10 a car load.
Ogden Junction to Celebrate 10 Year Anniversary
The Ogden Junction will be celebrating its 10th anniversary on Aug. 5. The complex is home to the Salomon Center, where adventure meets downtown with iFly, Flowrider and iRock. Those looking to spend the weekend at the Junction can rest easy at the Hilton Garden Inn which is walking distance from the Salomon Center, Megaplex Theaters, Sonora Grill, Fat Cats, Golds Gym, Costa Vida, Iggy’s Sports Grill, Wingnuts and more.
Fun Odds and Ends of Ogden Summers
This summer is full of crazy fun and vastly differing events around Ogden. You can find events ranging from commemorating the history of Utah to viewing the natural wonders of space. Weber County North Fork Park is known as an International Dark Sky Park. Astronomers and star enthusiasts alike gather here to view the vastness and natural wonders of space. Not only is this park host to an amazing view of the sky, but it offers many unique events as well.
Utah’s biggest statehood celebration, Pioneer Days, is proudly held right here in Ogden. The celebration takes place over the 24th of July and consists of a week-long celebration with a series of events including a nationally recognized rodeo, parades, demolition derbies, fireworks and more. Leading up to the event those exploring Ogden will discover more than 60 life-size painted horses scattered along Historic 25th Street, Washington Boulevard. and the Junction. The horses are strategically placed, leading to the Ogden Pioneer Stadium and ultimately the Pioneer Day celebration itself. Pioneer Days is a sight to see and a week to be a part of.
