SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Award-winning chef, restaurateur, TV personality and cookbook author Akhtar Nawab and his New York based firm, Hospitality HQ (HHQ), have been chosen to oversee all management and operations of the highly anticipated culinary destination, The Local Market & Bar, set to open mid 2022. The 125 seat, 7,500 sq. ft. establishment offers seven culinary concepts and one innovative cocktail bar and will open as the anchor tenant within Avia at The Exchange in Salt Lake City, UT.
The Exchange, is a $110 million mixed-use development in downtown Salt Lake City that hosts a diverse mix of residential and retail offerings. Featuring Avia and Mya residences, The Shop Workspace, Rebel House fitness, and more to come, The Exchange attracts thousands of individuals daily. The project is a joint venture between The Domain Companies and Salt Lake City-based developer, Giv Group. The Domain Companies is known for impressive hospitality and restaurant concepts, including five imaginative restaurants that are a part of the Ace Hotel in New Orleans, recently named the #1 hotel in New Orleans by Conde` Nast Traveler.
Recognizing the explosive growth in food & beverage establishments in Salt Lake City, Chef Nawab, Founding Partner and CEO of HHQ, and his company plan to bring local culinary creators to The Local Market & Bar, or in short, “The Local”, to showcase a talented culinary community under one roof. Through thoughtful curation, guests will have the ability to experience delicious artisanal concepts, as well as try dishes from renowned chefs and restaurateurs.
“We are thrilled to partner with Hospitality HQ to bring such a dynamic food and beverage concept to the Salt Lake City community. Chef Nawab’s extraordinary culinary talents will come to life in a carefully curated food hall experience unlike anything in the city,” said Matt Schwartz, CEO of The Domain Companies. “At The Local Market & Bar, we are honoring cuisines from all over the world at a local destination that you can enjoy every day, in a different way—all in a fun, eclectic environment that is as unique and enjoyable as the cuisine.”
In partnership with Bell Butler Design and Architecture, The Local Market & Bar palette and material design is inspired by Utah's landscape.
Chef Nawab describes The Local as, “a place for guests and chefs to be imaginative and curious. The life of the party is always in the kitchen. It’s a comfortable place where everyone is free to be themselves.” Nawab continues to explain, “With a mix of local chefs and restaurateurs, The Local Market and Bar will cater to a wide variety of clientele, from those seeking a night out for dinner and drinks with friends, to the work-by-day guest gathering for a lunch meeting. At The Local, our guests will find a wide range of offerings speaking to the local Salt Lake City heritage, as well as the destination guest.”
In addition to partnering with local restaurateurs, The Local will also partner with Spice Kitchen Incubator, a project of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), which brings together refugees and other disadvantaged community members interested in starting a full or part-time food business. The Domain Companies and Giv have always been committed to improving the lives and livelihoods of the community and the partnership with Spice Kitchen creates a platform to continue that mission.
Interested vendors are encouraged to apply for more information, and can do so by filling out the contact form on The Local’s website.
