PARK CITY, UT – Park City Institute honors its “Illuminated Institute Insiders” with a private concert featuring mesmerizing, Grammy-nominated chanteuse Perla Batalla at The Eccles Center on November 28. The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. All Park City Institute Seat Campaign contributors are invited to the event and may secure a free pair of tickets via the box office at 435-655-3114. In order to become an Illuminated Institute Insider, please contact The Eccles Center box office at 435-655-3114.
“Our ‘Illuminated Institute Insiders’ have shown our organization incredible support by purchasing one-time, naming rights to the seats in our theater,” explains PCI executive director Teri Orr. “We couldn’t imagine a more appropriate way to thank these wonderful patrons than by celebrating the arts with vocalist-composer and longtime friend of Park City Institute, Perla Batalla. And, of course, with several yet-to-be named seats remaining and a $1 million gift to match, we’d love new patrons to join these supporters.”
With a “voice full of color and nuance” (Cosmopolitan), Perla Batalla recently brought her blend of Latin, American, gypsy, gospel, folk and pop to Park City Institute’s St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights summer concert series. A Leonard Cohen protégé, the Grammy-nominated composer-vocalist launched her solo career more than a decade ago, earning critical acclaim for her stunning voice and culture-merging compositions on three albums. On stage, Batalla casts a spell – there’s magical realism in her performance, alongside American standards and Cohen tunes. The Los Angeles-based musician pays homage to her Mexican heritage as her rich vocals seamlessly transition from English to Spanish and back.
According to the Los Angeles Times, “Perla Batalla is the kind of artist Peter Gabriel would fall in love with. Comfortable in both English and Spanish, proud of her mestiza heritage, musically adventurous and accompanied by impeccable performers…. But above all, she is a born storyteller with a rambunctious sense of humor.” Batalla will be accompanied by singer-songwriter Tom Prasada-Rao, Pete Korpela (who has been on the road with the likes of Josh Groban and Melody Gardot) and global artist/composer/multi-instrumentalist Gilberto Gonzalez.
About the Seat Campaign: Of the 1,296 seats in The Eccles Center, several seats are yet to be “purchased” for naming rights and “Illuminated Institute Insiders” privileges. For a one-time donation of $500 (or $1,000 in the theater’s less-than-20 remaining seats in the first nine rows), supporters of Park City Institute receive the following benefits: a message or name on a seat plaque; two tickets for an Eccles Center 2015-2016 Main Stage performance (excluding New Year’s Eve and Snowden event); one year PCI membership; Illuminated Institute Insiders circle privileges, including an invitation to a free, Illuminated Institute Insiders performance and reception. Park City Institute is a non-profit organization, dedicated to bringing world-class performances and new ideas to the community. Since 1998, PCI has presented internationally renowned and cutting edge musicians, actors, authors, comedians, dancers, speakers and film at The George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Center for the Performing Arts (a joint-use facility with the Park City School District). The organization will embark on its 13th season of headliner concerts at Deer Valley Resort next summer.
