Family Ski Resort Guide | Eagle Point Resort

Should you pull up to Beaver, Utah’s Eagle Point for a weekend of skiing or snowboarding, chances are you’ll be enjoying a face full of powder in short order. Eagle Point operates daily from mid-December through early January. For the remainder of the season, Eagle Point restricts its operating hours to Friday through Monday. As weekday storms stack up, eager powderhounds can reap a bountiful harvest amid scant lift lines on Friday mornings. Eagle Point provides an escape from the ordinary amid the stunning scenery of the remote Tushar Mountain Range and a chance for families to slow down and connect.

With ample lodging nearby, a weekend trek to Eagle Point is a vacation made simple. The affordable rates, reasonable lift ticket prices and some of the most attractively priced lessons in the state of Utah make Eagle Point a great destination for winter-loving families. Without breaking the bank, families can explore 650 acres of tree-lined groomers, steeps, a terrain park and refreshingly uncrowded slopes. Eagle Point feels a bit like a private country club sans any semblance of snobbery. This mountain maintains a welcoming atmosphere where guests can settle in and enjoy the mountain.

Pro Tip: Lodging at Eagle Point can book up quickly. We advise booking lodging early to guarantee your fun weekend away

In a 5th Grader’s Words: “Eagle Point is AWESOME! I have skied there since I was 6. Tushar is my favorite because it is a black diamond that’s groomed. I also like visiting Puffer’s Pass with my little brother and mom. Last year I tried snowboarding and it was easy because it is not crowded. I also like all the games at the big lodge...like shuffleboard and foosball." - Ella, Age 10

Eagle Point has two lodges situated above the slopes, so you begin your day by heading downhill to the lift of your choice. If you’re raring to go, you can park near the Canyonside Lodge and warm up on the blue-rated Subway Bowl run. From there, strong skiers or riders can lap the Lookout Quad chairlift to get the lay of the land before heading up to explore the terrain off the Skyline Double or Monarch Triple lifts.

The Skyline Lodge occupies the upper base area and houses the Eagle Point Snowsports School. This lodge provides access to easy, gentle green runs for young children or beginners.

All of the easy, green-rated trails are located off the Skyline double chair or the Monarch triple chair. Here, beginners can gain confidence on the wide, tree-lined slopes. Be sure to hit the Big Horn run off the Monarch chairlift for some amazing views of the surrounding valley and Mt. Holly. The terrain park is also located nearby.

Pro Tip: For the 21-22 season, Eagle Point debuts a huge expansion of snowmaking on the upper mountain, extending their season and helping beginners and intermediates make the most of the area accessible from the Skyline chairlift

Intermediates will enjoy the Elk Meadows run underneath the Skyline chair to warm up for the day. Another lap and you can navigate over to the Monarch lift for steeper blues and scenic runs lined by aspens and conifers. To access the remainder of the resort, use the Tunnel Vision run to travel through the ski tunnel to the lower mountain and more challenging terrain; children love this unique experience!

There are only a few blue-rated runs off the Lookout quad chairlift, the majority of the runs here are steeper northwest-facing slopes with black diamond difficulty ratings. Intermediate skiers can ride up the Canyonside lift and finish up with a few laps on Subway Bowl. There is a complimentary shuttle to return to the Skyline Lodge.

Pro Tip: To remedy chilly fingers or toes, head to the Lookout Warming Cabin atop the Lookout chairlift. Enjoy a crackling fire, 360-degree views and the impressive sight of 12,000 foot Mt. Holly

Expert and strong intermediate skiers will find plenty of steeps to explore off the Lookout chairlift. There are powder stashes in the trees and the ridgeline of Country Road provides access to more steeps with longer pitches. Keep your speed up on the Black Diamond Pass cat track before using the Tushar Peaks surface lift to bump up to the next set of steep black diamond runs. Donner’s Descent and Missing Linc hold powder for days!

Pro Tip: Once you hit the Country Road cat track, find the orange ‘Hike Out’ trail discs to drop into more steep, untracked terrain. Should you use those gates, you will find wonderful stashes and untracked powder, but there will be a 5-10 minute walk up a groomed cat track to return to the Lookout chairlift. This unique setup preserves fresh snow at Eagle Point and adventurous skiers will enjoy exploring the uncrowded terrain and quality of snow

If you’re not up for hiking, just take the Country Road cat track back to the Lookout base. There is another fun and rolling black diamond run located underneath the Canyonside lift called Miles’ Meteor.

Backcountry skiers can take advantage of Eagle Point’s backcountry gate along the boundary line for access to some of Utah’s most untrammeled backcountry terrain. Skiers or splitboarders can venture into the Fishlake National Forest for a mind-boggling variety of lines and scenic views. As always, never travel into the backcountry without a partner, proper equipment, training and an accurate avalanche forecast.

LODGING AND DINING OPTIONS

Eagle Point has a handful of lodging options in close proximity to the slopes. You can book them directly online through Eagle Point’s website. We recommend staying right here on the mountain because it’s awesome to wake up early and just hit the slopes.

Pro Tip: Save or download a picture of Eagle Point’s village map. There is spotty cell coverage in the village and if you’re looking for a condo or specific building it’s handy to have a map available.

Lodging includes premium condos, Village Condos, cabins, Vacation Homes, and the legendary and historic hexagon house. Groups up to 10 can be accommodated or rental units can be combined for bigger crowds. Eagle Point is the kind of place where it’s fun to grab a few like-minded families, pack up the kids and enjoy a weekend getaway.

Debuting for the 2021-2022 season, guests can enjoy a luxe stay at the newly constructed Canyonside Collection. Located right in the heart of Eagle Point's Canyonside village, these well-appointed and modern lodgings offer spacious square footage, private hot tubs and a chance to escape into modern mountain bliss.

Pro Tip: Many of the condos or properties come with fully equipped kitchens so it’s easy to eat in and reduce trips to Beaver, where there are limited dining options. Stop at the grocery store before leaving Beaver and heading up the mountain as there are no groceries available at Eagle Point.

Hotels, motels and bed and breakfast accommodations in Beaver can also be considered. These are often priced a bit lower than what you’ll find slopeside and reduced rates can be booked directly through Eagle Point’s website. The drive to Eagle Point from Beaver is approximately 19 miles and takes around 20-25 minutes in fair weather. Note that this road is notoriously slick during storm cycles and travel time is considerably longer.

For lunch or dinner, head to the Bar & Grill in the newly renovated and expanded Canyonside Lodge. Grab a beer in the bar and let the kids amuse themselves with foosball, chess or shuffleboard in the adjacent gaming zone. The bar and restaurant are open late for dinner and drinks for those staying slopeside. Note that for those staying and dining at the restaurant, the complimentary shuttle service halts at 5pm, so plan on walking or driving.
