A Perfect Season with an Imperfect Ending

It is with disappointment that we have decided to close ski operations for the 2015/16 season slightly earlier than planned due to several unforeseen circumstances which happened over the past few days.

It is with disappointment that we have decided to close ski operations for the 2015/16 season slightly earlier than planned due to several unforeseen circumstances which happened over the past few days.

The Monarch lift, which serves the vast majority of our intermediate terrain, developed a major mechanical issue causing it to be closed until dry ground conditions allow its repair this summer. We have already commenced plans for the repair, which will be completed well in time for the lift to be fully operational for the 2016/17 season. The loss of the Monarch lift removes ten blue runs and the terrain parks from the ski and snowboard experience we offer.

Many of you have had the pleasure to meet Lane Tucker, our base operations manager, and one of the key employees of the resort. Lane is currently in a Salt Lake area hospital after suffering broken bones and other significant injuries resulting from a skiing accident last weekend. All of us at Eagle Point are overcome with sadness and sympathy at the thought of Lane in his hospital bed. We are all hopeful that he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Finally, while coverage is still excellent in most places due to heavy early snowfall, the main access ways to the steep side, Tunnel Vision and Subway Bowl, are showing late season signs of snow degradation. With the current weather conditions, it won’t be long before alternative access ways would be required to access the steep side with its twentytwo runs and three lifts. New snow would alleviate this issue, however, the forecast does not seem promising in the nearterm.

In so many ways, this was by far our best and favorite winter season as Eagle Point Resort: we all enjoyed bountiful early and midseason powder days; the resort experienced growth and profitability from high levels of visitation, lodging and real estate activity; and some really cool things happened, like the Apex Experience, a national corporation’s threeday private takeover of the resort, a truly spectacular event, which supported kids battling cancer.

We could certainly make some turns on the snow base we have for several more weeks even without new snow. However, our objective is to deliver an exceptional destination experience for our guests. Given the circumstances, we do not want our guests to suffer an experience that does not meet their, and our, expectations for a visit to Eagle Point. We will issue full refunds for any lodging reservations or advanced ticket purchases for future March/April dates. Eagle Point representatives will contact all affected parties directly to initiate refunds.

Not to get your hopes up, but we are ready, willing and able to reopen the steep side only and the Canyonside Lodge for a powder weekend should mother nature bless us with another good storm in the next few weeks. We would use our email service, website and social media outlets to announce any such plans for a powder weekend.

From all of us at Eagle Point Resort, we wish to thank you for an amazing season and we look forward to seeing you this summer for a cool mountain escape from the heat or next winter for a long weekend of skiing or snowboarding at your second home.
