SNOWBIRD, UT – Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort proudly announces a new alpine food event in late October celebrating the beautiful autumn season in Little Cottonwood Canyon. As the days grow shorter and excitement builds for the official start of winter and the 2015/16 ski season, there is still time to bask in the comfortable alpenglow at Snowbird in late October.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25, from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. sample an exquisite chili serving from renowned Snowbird chefs. The chili will be available for purchase in either two ounce samplers or eight ounce portions. Cornbread and condiments will also be served. Eight ounce samplers can be purchased for $10. Other menu items and food options will be available during the event.
On Sunday, Oct. 25, Snowbird’s elite executive chefs, local foodies, and Snowbird employees will be battling head to head in a no holds barred culinary competition, the first annual “Chili Bird Showdown.” Interested participants may enter a prepared 10 ounce chili sampling. Due to Salt Lake County Health Department regulations no food can be prepared on-site. An astute panel of judges will vote for their favorite dishes in the following categories; Best Red Chili, Best White Chili, and Best Vegetarian Chili.
All Chili Bird Showdown events will take place on the Snowbird Plaza Deck, weather permitting. In the case of poor weather the event will be moved indoors to The Rendezvous located on the second floor of the Snowbird Center.
“Snowbird is excited to add another great family event right before the start of the ski season,” said Dave Fields, Vice President of Resort Operations at Snowbird. Fields also adds “Snowbird continues to add new and exciting family events year round which provide more outdoor recreational opportunities for local residents during all four seasons on the calendar.”
During the Chili Bird Showdown event a wide array of family activities will be available for attendees. In celebration of the Halloween season Snowbird will offer pumpkins for decoration, juggling, balloon artists, and face painting for children. All of the activities will be adorned with straw bales and fire pits to provide warmth and comfort for anticipated seasonably cooler weather.
On Sunday, Oct. 25, Snowbird Executive Chef RJ Peterson will conduct a free chili cooking demonstration inside The Forklift from 3 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. The event is free for all participants who pre-register by Saturday, Oct. 17.
