Keeping it Real – 2016 Alta Summer Stewardship Events

he community of Alta is coming together again this summer to offer residents, patrons and Salt Lake visitors alike a fun filled summer of stewardship and environmental education.

Alta, UT – June 2016: The community of Alta is coming together again this summer to offer residents, patrons and Salt Lake visitors alike a fun filled summer of stewardship and environmental education. Everyone is welcome to join the powerhouse collaboration between Alta Ski Area, Alta Environmental Center, Town of Alta, Cottonwood Canyons Foundation, Forest Service, Friends of Alta, Alta Community Enrichment, TreeUtah, Tracy Aviary, HawkWatch International, and the Utah Society for Environmental Education (USEE) in a variety of events from trail work and weed pulls to bird walks and workshops. The goal for this summer is to restore over 3,000 native plants, pull a ton of weeds, and attract over 500 volunteers. Stewardship is the perfect fun, educational and honest activity to support a common goal between all partners and visitors, keeping Alta natural and scenic.

Kicking-off the summer for the month of June is an Environmental Education Workshop for educators with USEE focusing on Project Learning Tree – Forests of the World and Alta’s SKE-COLOGY program Saturday, June 18th and monthly weed pull Thursday, June 30th.  Also this summer the 5th Annual Town of Alta Restoration Day Saturday, July 9th and the very first Alta Kids Day Saturday, August 20th. The Alta stewardship partners hope that all Alta patrons see this as an opportunity to make stride in minimizing recreational impact as well as build awareness and appreciation with our future stewards.
