Eden, UT (December 11, 2020) — Nordic Valley Ski Resort announced this afternoon the resort will open for the 2020/2021 winter season this Sunday, December 13 at 10 a.m. Officials expect to open Bridger lift and the Cub surface lift and one trail as mountain teams make a push to open additional terrain later this week and continue installation of the new high-speed lift.
On Sunday at 10 a.m., Nordic Valley will kick off a first chair celebration (the first 50 guests will receive free hot chocolate) at the Bridger lift. Resort officials say that while terrain will be very limited, they are eager to get the season going.
“We are excited to welcome back our guests,” said Brandon Fessler, Nordic Valley general manager. “The snowmaking team has been working hard to open our lower mountain and we’ve got our sights on the next storm system headed our way.”
The Open Snow forecast indicates Nordic Valley could receive up to 10 inches over the next week, and Fessler said he anticipates opening additional terrain pending snowfall. The resort will be open to the public 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday. Starting Monday, December 14, lifts will run from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The resort is following all local and national guidelines to ensure guest safety. All guests will be required to wear masks and physically distance in all public places except when eating or drinking at a designated dining location or when actively engaged in skiing, riding, or other distanced outdoor activities.
Nordic Valley is making several improvements to help promote physical distancing. The ski area will be launching online ticket, rentals, and lessons sales beginning next week to help reduce touchpoints. Tickets can be purchased online in advance for as low as $19, the most affordable deal in Utah.
The Nordic Valley Grill will have limited indoor seating, and - new for this winter - guests can order online at food.nordicvalley.ski.
Earlier this summer, Nordic Valley began construction on the resort’s first high-speed detachable chairlift, a six-person lift. According to resort officials, the new lift construction project - together with Power Pass resort Arizona Snowbowl’s high-speed chairlift gondola combination lift - makes up one of the largest lift installation projects in North America for the 2020/2021 winter season.
Manufactured by Leitner Poma, it will be 4,213 feet in length with a vertical of 1,400 feet. The high-speed lift will be located on a brand new area - 300 skiable acres that’s been owned by Nordic Valley but never developed with plans to open during the holidays. Officials expect the new lift and terrain will open during the 2020-2021 winter season.
