PARK CITY, UT (January 2017) – Bringing together athletes of not just varying ability, but skill levels from Paralympic veterans to youth and developing athletes, the Huntsman cup focuses on providing opportunity to athletes who are hopefuls for future Paralympic games in 2018 and 2022. The 28th annual Huntsman Cup will take place February 7-10 in Park City, Utah as one of the National Ability Center’s greatest athletic sporting events. The Huntsman Cup welcomes adaptive ski racers from around the nation and is an alpine ski race sanctioned by the International Paralympic Committee.
Held in the Eagle Race Arena at Park City Mountain Resort, Huntsman Cup is designated as an International Paralympic Committee Alpine Skiing (IPCAS) level race and will be held as a four-day event. The races will take place February 7 through the 10th and focus on building technical skills in racing and lowering points to qualify for more upper level competitions. The four days of racing will be two days of Giant Slalom and two days of Slalom racing.
“Each year, these remarkable athletes provide the community with an inspiring glimpse of the Paralympic movement and demonstrate what is possible in adaptive sports,” said Gail Barille, National Ability Center Chief Executive Officer. “None are defined by their disability, and, whether they are skiing on one leg, in a sit ski or use a guide to navigate the course, they fly down the hill with style and speed unmatched by many.”
Those with race experience are encouraged to get involved by volunteering as course slippers or gate keepers. To find out more about these and other volunteer opportunities, please visit disocvernac.org/get-involved or email laurenw@discovernac.org.
