New to the event this year, is the first ever Ski Boot Race. Pre-registration for the race will open on Nov. 1. More information can be found by visiting the website.

Participants can also take part in the vintage ski outfit contest and win new clothes from Eider, skis from Rossignol or a Burton snowboard. Lift tickets and other swag from Utah ski resorts will also be given away. The event will also offer ice skating, a kids zone, food, beer and much more. The Fat Flake Festival is free and open to the public. Last year’s festival was successful in conjuring an amazing 700 inches of snow for the 2007-08 winter season. Join Ski Utah as they call out to the snow gods and welcome winter back to the Wasatch!

The Fat Flake Festival is powered by Ski Utah, Ride Utah, KSL Radio, X-96, PowerAde, Monster Beverage Co., Salt Lake CVB, Stantec, Powder Magazine, Snowboarder Magazine, Media One, City Weekly, Pictureline, and Young Chevrolet.

Utah Avalanche Center Gear Swap

A lot of locals whether they ride in bounds or out of bounds rely on the services of the Utah Avalanche Center. Resorts consult closely with this team of experts and share information and forecasts back and forth to ensure safety for anyone who slides on snow in Utah’s mountains.

It only makes sense then that we support the Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center gear swap that’s coming up on November 1, 2008. It’s held at the REI on 3300 South.

A Ski Party- Deer Valley Style

Deer Valley has the honor of annually hosting one of the stops for the professional tour in the skiing world- the World Cup. Having made the trek up to Deer Valley back in my college days I knew what I was getting into- a GREAT time. The actual World Cup activities last most of the week with preliminary events during the week and the Finals taking place on Friday and Saturday. In the past the events have included the Aerials and Dual Moguls. This year spectators were treated with an additional event for the first time ever in North America at World Cup level, a Ski Cross competition.

The events take place mountain side on lower Deer Valley with the Aerials and Dual Moguls Finals at night. After the Finals the crowd is entertained with a free concert and fireworks. Be sure to bundle up because it can get cold.

Don’t miss out next year. The World Cup is a great party.

If you’d like to see highlights from this year’s World Cup check out Versus on February 17th at 4 p.m. EST.
