Fresh From the Farm: Outdoor Markets in Utah

Summertime in Utah: the few months a year where it seems like everything is in bloom. The mountains are a hub for outdoor-adventurists, but when your muscles are looking to take a break from a day on the trails, there’s no better way to spend the day than with local farmers, vendors and artists at any of Utah’s outdoor markets.

Good Eats: Everyone is looking to enhance their getaway to Utah with some top-tier restaurants to satisfy their hunger after a long day in the mountains. While gourmet dining options are popping up across the state, people often overlook the basics. Here in Utah, we produce some of the most highly applauded produce in the country, and have it readily available at our fingertips. Across the state, farmer’s markets are expanding, offering the freshest handpicked goodies. Buying local is a great way to avoid processed foods, not to mention the peak flavor and nutritional value of the ready-to-eat treats. Vendors sell an assortment of local fruits, veggies, cheeses, jams, honey, breads, meats, and more!

For your creative side: Not only can you swing by the markets to restock your refrigerator, but many of these markets are now home to local artists showing off their unique creations.  Such markets are quickly becoming popular destinations for artists of all kinds. You can find a number of painters, photographers, woodworkers and sculptors displaying their work, and even take a piece or two home with you!

Where to begin? Here’s our guide to some our favorite markets in the state:

Ogden’s Historic 25th Street Farmer’s & Art Market- During the summers, Ogden is home to one of the most well known outdoor markets in the state, and is dedicated to creating a sense of community among the people of Ogden. Always bustling with live music and performances, come check out the market every Saturday until September 29th, from 8am-1pm.

Provo Farmers Market- Held each Saturday at Pioneer Park in downtown Provo, this popular market runs from 9am-2pm from June to October. The Provo Farmers Market is so much more than just a place to shop. This market is dedicated to supporting and enhancing educational opportunities for the children of the Provo School District, and also offers information about local community, political and social opportunities.

Utah State University Botanical Center holds a farmers market every Thursday from 5pm until dusk. The market supports the Davis County Master Gardeners, and includes a variety of local produce, gourmet food artisans, entertainment, and children’s activities.  Support the local community and swing by the market to unwind after a long day in the office.

Downtown Farmers Market, Salt Lake City- Whether you’re looking to find a place to bring the kids, or wanting to stroll the streets of downtown Salt Lake solo on a Saturday afternoon, the Downtown Farmers Market is the place to be. During the months of June through October, this market attracts thousands of locals and tourists alike in search of the best produce, food trucks, and local artisan products.

Park City Farmers Market - Going strong for 15 years, The Park City Farmers market is held at Canyons Resort every Wednesday from 12-6 during the summer and fall growing and harvest months.

Focused more on art and jewelry, the Park Silly Sunday Market is the perfect place to spend your Sunday afternoon in the mountains. This eco-friendly, open air market takes place on lower Main Street in Park City, and is a fun dog-friendly destination for people of all ages. With live music, numerous dining options, and local artwork, the Park Silly market is a perfect way to wrap up an afternoon of hiking and biking through the mountains of Park City.
