Costumes, party shirts, sunny days, and pond skims—just a few reasons why spring skiing is always sure to be a raging good time! Although one of the crowd pleasers is always a good pond skim party. Whether you’re a participant showing off your best tricks, or a bystander there for the epic fails and crashes, it’s a fun time for everyone. So what are you waiting for? Grab your craziest costumes and head over to one of these Utah ski resort pond skim parties. 


1. Powder Mountain

Date: April 7, 2024 

For the first time in a while, Powder will be bringing back the classic pond skim and we couldn’t be more stoked about it! In line with its closing day, Powder Mountain will have a pond skim located lookers left of the Timberline Lodge. There is no prior registration needed, but you will need to sign a waiver day of if you plan to skim. They’ll have live music, a mechanical bull, a bouncy house, and tons of good spring skiing vibes. 


2. Solitude Mountain Resort

Date: April 13, 2024 

Solitude's Pond Skim Beach Party is a classic that is held each year. Not a party corresponding with closing day, but merely a party all on its own. Located at Last Chance Lodge, you can’t miss the beach party. It’s free to spectate and a $30 entry fee if you’d like to do some pond skimming. So bust out your craziest costume and show off your best skills. After the pond skimming, the party continues with the Last Chance Beach Bash featuring live music by Gorgeous Gourds. 


3. Park City Mountain

Date: April 6, 2024

Coming back for its third annual pond skim is Park City Mountain Resort. It’s a party grown in such popularity that registration for participation to skim is already full! However, you can still go and spectate the event and see some of the legendary pond skim fails and graceful glides. Doors open at 11:30 am and the action starts at 12 pm at the Eagle Super Pond. 


4. Beaver Mountain 

Date: March 30, 2024 

More than simply a pond skim, this is the Beaver Bash, full of easter eggs, and Race the Face—a derby style race of epic proportions. More information and registration can be found here. Race the Face is $15 to enter. 

 


5. Brian Head Ski Resort

Date: April 6, 2024 

Brian Head’s famous pond skim is back for another season at their Spring Carnival. Located at the base of Giant Steps and beginning at 1:30 pm, this is an event not to miss! They are limiting the number of participants and do require a registration fee of $10, so be sure to snag your spot quickly. But don’t worry, even if you can’t get in on the pond skimming, you can participate in the Cardboard Box Race, or new this season, the Boxzilla Rail Jam and The Tug of War Battle. There’s plenty of friendly competition to go around at Brianhead. Enjoy the sunshine, activities, and pond skimmin’ at this classic spring event.  

 


6. Nordic Valley

Date: March 24, 2024

This year's Duct Tape Derby and Pond Skim at Nordic Valley did not disappoint! Although this event already took place, be sure to check back next year, and in the meantime, enjoy their pond skim party highlight reel:  


7. Snowbasin Resort

Date: April 20, 2024

Last but certainly not least is Snowbasin's 10th Annual Pond Skim. Sponsored by Coca-Cola and boasting a 100-foot pond, this is a spectator favorite. Located at the bottom of Orson’s Terrain Park, near the base area and beginning at 11 am, expect to see some wild costumes at this pond skim bash. A $10 registration is required and limited—so snag your spot soon if you want to skim! Spectating is free. Participants are also encouraged to bring a helmet and towel, it’s a pretty long skim after all. So come enjoy the ultimate spring skiing vibes and this epic pond skim party. 


Although not all resorts have official pond skim parties, there are always epic closing day parties where you can bust out your wildest costumes and spring vibes. Check out all the closing dates and parties happening this season.
