Step 6: Après-biking at Red Bull Rampage

Step 6 is going to be a short one. I’m leaving work early on Thursday and headed to the desert of Southern Utah for the Red Bull Rampage. If you don’t already know, “Rampage” is one of the most unique and absolutely insane mountain biking events in the world. A one, or two, day competition amongst the best mountain bikers in the world, riding technical spines, sending huge drops and throwing freestyle tricks off natural and manmade features. Oh, and they invite a couple thousand spectators to camp out in the desert and cheer the riders on. And until they set up a two-thousand person campground/party at the base of the biggest Alaskan spines, there’s no event in skiing or snowboarding that compares.

Lucky for us Utahns, Rampage takes place every October outside of Virgin, Utah, a few minutes from Zion National Park and about a five-hour drive from the Wasatch.

With mountain biking season winding down in Northern Utah, Rampage is great excuse to head south for a weekend to ride some bikes, take in some sun, and get in some après-ski training. Mountain biking isn’t just a great way to way to satisfy your adrenaline addiction in the offseason, it’s also a great way to get in shape while learning to earn your après. After finally upgrading my bike this summer, I’ve been riding a lot. Here are a few clips of my friends and myself biking and après-ski training this fall.

There should be plenty of après-biking taking place this weekend at Red Bull Rampage. I’ll see you there! And if that wasn’t convincing enough, here’s a few clips to inspire you to make the trip next October.

If you can't make it to the desert this weekend, the riding should still be great in Northern Utah. Get out there and get some exercise, check out some fall foliage, and practice your après. There's even a Warren Miller premiere and after-party in Salt Lake on Friday night. Winter is coming...
