New Holiday Traditions Begin on the Mountain

Last year I told you a true story of a friend who cancelled her own Thanksgiving tradition of hosting Friendsgiving and headed west to face the in-laws because she couldn't deal anymore with the growing list of dietary requests of the various guests. Tradition broken. This year, I heard of another situation where some members of the family  weren't welcome at the table because they "wouldn't fit." Like, size-wise? Personality-wise? Forget that! 

Start your own stress-free tradition, whatever your situation, by making some memories  at one of Utah's incredible resort restaurants. Reservations are recommended at all of these locations.

AltaAlta Lodge

Dinner: 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. $45 for adults, $20 for children ages 12 and under. Call 801-742-3500 for reservations.

Brian HeadThe Restaurant at Cedar Breaks Lodge

If you're enjoying the slopes at Brian Head, make plans to hit The Restaurant for a plated meal of house salad, butternut squash soup, roast turkey with sage stuffing, various side dishes, and classic desserts. 

Diner: Adults, $27, Children under 12 $15. Served from 3-10 p.m.

Deer ValleyThe Brass Tag

Looking for an intimate affair? The Brass Tag at the Lodges at Deer Valley is serving a scrumptious three-course Thanksgiving Dinner for Two. Options include starting with either a miso pumpkin soup or grilled romaine salad, followed by entrée options ranging from an herb rubbed oven roasted turkey complete with traditional cranberry raisin stuffing to a less traditional, but equally as appealing butternut squash ravioli with a caramelized orange butter sauce. Finish it off with a dessert of pumpkin crème brûlée or apple cheddar pie. An á la carte option will also be available.

Dinner: $48 per person, tax and gratuity not included

Glitretind at Stein Eriksen Lodge

Glitretind, home of Stein Eriksen Lodge’s famed Sunday brunch at Deer Valley Resort, puts forth a giant, five-star Thanksgiving buffet you'll never forget. Selections include pumpkin-apple soup with sherry and bacon, scallop-and-lobster fall potato chowder, grilled lamb T-bone, braised veal short-ribs, roasted Arctic char, sides, salads, Stein’s Grand Dessert Display, and so much more. 

$75 for adults, $25 for children

In the Kokopelli Ballroom, the staff here puts on a feast! Soups and salads include Harvest Pumpkin and Spiced Apple, Cous Cous Salad with Cranberries, Almonds, Baby Kale, Wild Mushrooms, Mixed Artisan Lettuce and Arugala Salad- Candied Walnuts Fresh Apple, Smoked Cheddar, Pomegranate Vinaigrette. Enjoy meats and fish such as Brown Sugar-Molasses Brined Roast Turkey with Cranberry Chutney and Southern Gravy; High-West Whisky and Maple Glazed Ham with Whole Grain Mustard Sauce; Herb and Garlic “Emberred” Prime Rib- Toasted Juniper Jus; Baked “Wild” Salmon. Top it off with Pumpkin pie, New York Cheesecake, Chocolate Hazelnut Tart, Louisiana Bread Pudding with Whisky Sauce; Peaches and Cream Cobbler with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.

SnowbirdThe Atrium

Always elegant, with a glorious mountain view.  Full-service buffet will feature slow-roasted turkey with a cranberry-orange-mint relish; seared salmon and roasted pork loin. The generous buffet will be loaded with devilied eggs, caramelized goat cheese-onion tartlets, seasonal soups, amazing sides. 

Dinner: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Adults $46, Children 6-12 $23, 5 and under free

No matter what you’re having, there’s something on the award-winning wine list to complement your turkey. Next year book early to enjoy Herb-Rubbed Turkey, Kurobuta Ham and Herb-Encrusted New York Strip!

The Lodge Bistro

Southern-style fried turkey with dried fruit and sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes, butternut squash gratin, green beans, cranberry-fig chutney, and cider gravy with pearl onions; potato- crusted  salmon, or prime rib. Great wine list.  Regular Children’s Menu will be available. 

Dinner: 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Adults $48, Children 6-12 $24, 5 and under free

 

Sundance

The dining at either The Foundry Grill or The Tree Room is always stellar. For Thanksgiving, they will both be serving their regular menu as well as a Thanksgiving style option for $40 per person. The Foundry Grill was still accepting reservations as of publish time, however, The Tree Room is fully booked. For reservations or to be placed on the wait list, call 801-223-4220.
