The season's not over yet, there's still plenty of fun spring turns to be had. We all love sliding around on snow because it’s just plain old fun to play with gravity in the mountains. It’s a chance to cut loose, give your best superhero impersonation as you glide over the snow rather than sitting in the board room. Not only is skiing and snowboarding fun, but the truth of the matter is that it’s good for your body and mind.
Here are the Top 5 reasons skiing's good for both your mind and body as recommended by our friends at the University of Utah Health Care:
#5 – Physical activity helps your mind and body, breathing in the fresh air and being surrounded by natural outdoor beauty distracts you from the worries of life, decreases anxiety and depression indicators, and improves your mood and even your memory.
#4 - Skiing tones major muscle groups, the inner and outer thighs, buttocks and hamstrings, which will keep you grooving for your spring/summer bike rides, runs and hiking adventures.
#3 - Snowboarding tones your legs, buttocks and core muscles, which will keep you grooving for your spring/summer skate, golf and swim sessions.
#2 - Skiing/snowboarding burns 250-1,250 calories per hour depending on your level of effort.
#1- Stronger bonds with family and friends. Together you defeat the hills, jumps, getting on and off the chairlifts together all while enjoying taking off your boots at lunchtime and ordering a drink and delicious grub. These adventures will be shared and laughed about off the slopes for a lifetime.
For more information or tips to keep you strong and healthy on or off the slopes visit University of Utah Health Care.
This list is obviously subjective, what are other "health" benefits of skiing that we didn't mention?

It's not just healthy is a way of life. If you get the fever you know what I mean. I will live a long life because of skiing and the plan is to die skiing. LOL!

Great article!! I know that when i ski i am in my own little world of peace. I am one with nature, whatever the conditions, does not matter, what matters is skiing..i have said that the expeirence is synergistically tied to many areas...health, wellness, bonding with friends and family and making new one associations along the way!..i see happy faces and smiles on most every person i meet on and off the slopes!! I am the CONNECTICUT SKI COUNCIL delegate to the National Ski Federation and everyone i meet is experiencing a great time all the time! GRETA STIFEL
