Powder Day at Solitude

By Tim Roberts \ December 23 2007

I know this blog is getting a little repetitive with me riding at Solitude all the time. I worked there for a long time and still have a lot of friends up on the mountain. It's hard at the beginning of the season for me to say no to a powder day at the tude. Especially when I know there is 2 feet of fresh on the hill and the sun is going to be out. Well, despite almost heading to Snowbird, I instead hung a left at the 7-11 and blasted up to Solitude.

I was glad I did when I hooked up with my old buddy just in time to watch the rope drop at the top of Sunrise and I was one of the first 10 chairs up Summit. Click below for a video of the lift ride.

The mountain looked like a giant marshmellow. As skiers and boarders began cascading down the slopes the race was on. How many laps could I do before I had to head back to work. No one was going to stop to shoot video with me on a day like this, one of the first of what is sure to be a great season. So, I tucked the camera back into my pocket and enjoyed one of the best mornings of shredding I'd had in a while.

More storms are on the way. Check out the NWS forecast.  One weather reporter called for the resorts to see up to 5 feet of new snow this week.  Now that's what I wanted for Christmas.
