Sleepy and quiet Solitude Mountain Resort just announced breaking news in that it will host quite the raucous events—the snowboardcross and skicross World Cup.
You should probably mark your calendars right now for Jan 19-22, 2017 to catch one of the wildest, fastest and best spectator events on snow. Solitude is hosting a test event featuring a Snowboarder Cross and Ski Cross event. This test event will be the second stop on the U.S. Grand Prix tour.
Wait for it . . . on February 1-10, 2019 the Wasatch Mountains will be the center of the snow universe as the 2019 FIS Freestyle and Snowboard World Championships (only the Olympic Winter Games are a bigger deal) will be hosted at:
• Solitude Mountain Resort - Snowboardcross and Skicross
• Deer Valley Resort - Aerials, Moguls and Dual Moguls
• Park City Mountain - Halfpipe and Slopestyle Snowboarding and Freeskiing
While it's still August and you know we're busy #WaitingForWinter this huge news makes it that much harder to wait for winter. It's also worth noting that this is the first World Championships that will be hosted on both the Park City and Salt Lake City side of the mighty Wasatch. Many world-class athletes live and train in Utah are constantly jet-setting the globe for competitions and without a doubt they are high-fiving the decision to bring the World Championships to Utah in 2019 along with Solitude's inclusion in this year's U.S. Grand Prix.
